Networking Networking is the ongoing process of building interconnected relationships for the purpose of politicking and socializing. About building professional relationships and friendships Networks are clusters of people joined by a variety of links. Your primary connections give you access to their networks

Why Network? To get a job or better position To perform better at your current job To advance within an organization To stay current in your field To maintain mobility To develop relationships

The Networking Process Perform a self assessment and set objectives Create an one-minute self-sell Develop a network Conduct networking interviews Maintain the network

Self Assessment and Set Objectives Accomplishments Write down your accomplishments! Create a resume Assignment: Create a resume

One-Minute Self Sell Your opening statement used in networking that quickly summarizes your history and career plan and asks a question. History: Start with a summary of the highlights of your career or school history Plans: State the target career you are seeking. Where would you like to work? Question: Ask a question to encourage two-way communication. In what other fields can I use these skills? Do you know of any job openings in field? Assignment: Write out your One-minute self sell and practice it!

Conduct Networking Interviews These are meetings with people in the field to meet your objectives. Ie: Job Shadowing!
