Texture and Form Interior Design

Texture The feel, appearance, or consistency of a surface or a substance Strongly effects the sense of touch, sight, and stimulates imagination Adds interest and focal point

rough Rough and bold make a room appear smaller Depending on material, can add formality or stability to the room

Soft Reflect light and make a room appear brighter and less formal Add familiarity and comfort Very welcoming

Form Is 3D, brings the room to life Length, width and depth in interiors Found in architecture, furniture, equipment, and accessories Plays a HUGE part in the function of a room Every item should serve a purpose and/or add interest to the room

Form Like line, can be used to achieve certain effects in a room Large, heavy objects (like sofas, beds, etc.) usually give a feeling of stability. Adds a solid feeling to the room Stability can also be reached by placing several small objects together. Example: 2 chairs and a table together in a living room give the same stable feel that a bed has in a bedroom

Assignment Grab a piece of paper and cut 6 identical squares Use a colored pencil and 6 different surfaces in the room to “color” each square Tape the squares together to make a cube
