7 Textures affect us in many ways:
Everything we touch evokes a physical response: hard/soft, smooth/rough, dull/shiny. Texture influences the amount of light an object reflects, thus affecting its color. Texture affects sound qualities. Texture affects the care and upkeep of an object. Texture is a source of beauty and character.

8 The Textures on walls affects the appearance of the room
Heavily Textured Walls: Make a room appear smaller Little or no texture on walls: Make a room appear larger

9 Textures add visual interest to a room
Smooth Textures: Make colors appear lighter and brighter and are generally more formal Shiny Textures: Have a more intense color Rough Textures: Make colors look darker and less intense and are generally more informal Muted Textures: Have a dull color

10 Activity On the “Texture Rub” sheet provided,
Take a crayon and go out in the hall and do a texture rub on the three different surfaces. Each couch picture should have a different texture rub on it.

12 Pattern 1. Is created through the use of space, line, shape, color and design to create visual interest. A. Simplest way of designing a surface treatment. B. Too much pattern can make a room too busy and uncomfortable. C. A room without pattern may be too stark or lacking in character.

13 Pattern Combinations:
A. If it is successful the room will feel comfortable B. Some pattern combinations make the room feel uncomfortable

14 combining patterns: 1. Evaluate the placement.
2. Know the character of the pattern. 3. Identify the color scheme of the pattern. 4. Use a variety of sizes or patterns.
