Us Lacrosse 2019 Rule Changes

Critical Scoring Area

The ball touches the ground below the goal line extended (new) Headgear: must be properly worn Time out: alert officials with 2 horn blasts Scoring: ball released before horn to end half/game Shot on goal completed: The ball enters the goal Any player gains possession The ball goes out of bounds The ball comes to rest on the field of play The ball touches the ground below the goal line extended (new)

Self Start Not allowed: The game clock is stopped There is a restraining line violation The foul occurred in the critical scoring area, except if it’s a boundary ball There is an alternate possession There is an inadvertent whistle A goal is scored How taken Must be taken from a settled stance Must be taken within playing distance of the foul All players must attempt to move 4m away, offender moves 4 m away as directed by the official Once the ball carrier has moved or passed all defenders may engage, ball carrier may wait until all players have moved and official has blown whistle. Reset if not done properly, repeated foul can be a delay of game penalty Official should practice preventative officiating

Changes to penalty administration Alternate possession: any alternate possession called while the ball is in the critical scoring area is administered at the dot, other team 4m towards the goal they are defending. Goal circle foul by the defense, penalty is administered on the dot. Penalty administration for any foul by defense within the 8m, including anything in the pie region, nearest hash the entire penalty zone cleared Hash placement, who gets what hash? Foul by defense outside the 8 but inside the 12, just clear a lane

Transitional Checking - An attempt to dislodge the ball from an opponent’s crosse in which the checking movement is down and away from the body and outside a 12-inch sphere surrounding the head is allowable. The checking motion may not reach across an opponent’s body. Any check into the sphere constitutes an illegal check. Check to the Head and a Slash are mandatory cards. Illegal cradle is still within 7” of the head
