Presentation transcript:

Welcome to the form class of…. Please add 5A, 5B, 5C, or 5D Name

Useful information Information booklet Form tutor role and expectations If you do have any questions please feel free to ask at the end of the presentation.

Form Tutor Please add information about you Add your name and let parents know a little about you e.g. subject, how long you have been at Marston etc

My Role Supporting your child on a daily basis Taking the register and following up unauthorised absence Checking uniform Checking that pupils have planners, a bag and are well-equipped for school Delivering pastoral time activities Discussing with pupils any rewards/sanctions they may have received in lessons Guiding and advising pupils and parents on dealing with day to day issues and concerns First port of call for parents and pupils Note that pupils in your form class will have many of their lessons together (but not English and Maths where they will be put in sets). Also mention the house system and how we will allocate each child a house when they join us in September.

Planners Pupil signature – every week Parents/Carers signature – every week Tutor signature – every week (but they will only sign it if the planner has been signed by the parents or carers) Two way communication

Attendance Attendance to school is really important in as poor attendance has a huge impact on pupil progress. If your child does miss school, it is important that the work missed is caught up. Expand here i.e. if their child has a headache provide school with paracetamol so can stay in school etc

Procedures Illness – Please contact the school on the day of reason for absence and likely date of return. Medical appointments – If a medical appointment needs to take place during the school day, a note must be written and shown to the form tutor explaining the reason for absence. If your child feels unwell during the school day they should report to the main office for assistance. If your child has regular medication please discuss this with our staff in the main office.

Concerns Use planner to write a note to the form tutor Ring to speak to the form tutor in the first instance. If the concern is about a subject related matter please ask to speak to the relevant teacher or Head of Department.

Ready Respectful Responsible We expect all pupils at Marston Vale Middle School to be: Ready Respectful Responsible

Is your child ready… to learn? to be positive? to take part? to try their best? to get along and work with other pupils?

Is your child respectful… of one other? of staff? of school property and the property of others? of the wider community?

Is your child responsible… for their behaviour? for their decisions? for their equipment? for their organisation?

Equipment list In addition to the uniform and P.E. kit that is required please also ensure that your child has: ruler black pen pencils eraser highlighter a green and red biro pencil sharpener coloured pencils glue stick whiteboard pen

Lockers Each pupil is allocated a locker. There is a £5 charge for this locker which is payable in year 5 only. If your child loses their key please inform the main office. There is a charge for replacement keys.

Resilience and Embracing Change The transition from lower to middle school is a big change. They will come across challenging situations in their school life but can build up a resilience to ensure that the impact on school and home life is minimal. It is ok for your child to find it difficult at first but change brings along new opportunities so please encourage them to try lots of new things and meet new people. GIVE EXAMPLES i.e. name calling, older pupils looking at them… Encourage them to try new and different activities, take on responsibilities

Questions Any questions?
