New Graduation Requirements for Class of 2023 Old way: Credits and State Exam New way: Box 1: High School Credits Box 2: Employability Skills Box 3: Measurement of college/career path readiness Please reference the handed out sheet.

Box 1 Indiana Diploma Types Minimal graduation requirements: Fulfill requirements of diploma and in addition pass ISTEP exams. Indiana Diploma Types Core 40 Core 40 with Academic Honors Core 40 with Technical Honors General Diploma

Box 2 Employability Skills Various ways to document that you have employable experience: Job Internship Project based learning Service learning Clubs and sports

Box 1: Course Selection Process: Each student will return completed course selection sheet to their middle school counselor by February 15. Write questions down on sheet for counselors. Time to review and discuss sheet. Have opportunity to meet with h.s. counselors over the next few weeks. Kesling: February 13: 7-9 then 3-5 Boston: February 14: 7-9 then 3-5 Student selections will be entered into Skyward on February 22 (Special Education students will be entered on February 21), and a requested course list will be available after Spring Break for course verification from parents and students. Deadline for change is firm: March 28

First year course plan Semester Schedule 7 classes per day Report card every 9 weeks: Midterm, Final Same system of checking grades, attendance, behavior on Skyward.

Course Selection Process: Keeping in mind required courses for graduation, students need to fill in all 14 lines for next school year plus 2 alternates. Students also have access to the Program of Studies online and elective class videos for additional information on courses if needed. Those are located on the school website under “guidance.”

9th Grade level diploma type requirements Core 40 is base diploma. The idea is to take a balance of content areas all four years. Do not try to “beat the system” by overloading on a certain content area on year. Remember to balance out electives: ideally, we want students to start a pathway of career courses

Course Selection Process: Students need to look over possible courses (listed on sheet) for the 2019-2020 school year. All freshmen are required to take two semesters of English, and Science. All freshmen are required to take math: 2-3 spots for Algebra, or 2 spots for Geometry. Placement for English and Math has been selected based on middle school grades and test scores.

Course Selection Process: Science: Biology is required, but students also have the choice of Earth Science. Both are two semesters. In addition, LPHS is offering Bio Med, a Project Lead the Way course to be taken concurrently with Biology. Applications are available!

Physical Education Two credits of PE are required: PE I and PE II PE proficiency through participating in a sport can be used for PE II only. Course Selection Process Tips: Courses taken in two: for example, Spanish 1-1 and Spanish 1-2. Check prereq’s for future courses: Painting? Take 2D Art first. Put some thought into academic electives: do not sign up for a class because your friends are signing up for the class.
