Vertical Clearance Coordination and Next Steps AMSC Update August 29, 2013

Coordination Across ODOT Vertical Clearance –Good example of Criticality Challenges

Coordination Includes AMI Bridge Section Freight Mobility Unit Motor Carrier Transportation Division Traffic/Roadway Section Transportation Data

Mobile Scanner Test Results Able to measure vertical clearance on –Bridge structures –Pedestrian structures –Major traffic structures Optimistic measurement trend continued Data mining still a mystery –How as well as resource implications

Questions/Issues to Solve Vertical Clearance Measuring System (VCMS) –Technologically, no longer supported –Functionally, can only be used for bridge-type structures Meet needs for routing over-dimension vehicles –Process for all structures over highway Role of mobile scanner –Can be used for all structures, but unknowns for use on bridges Need reliable methodology Transition from old technology to new –Coordination and communication Compiling and maintaining –Resourcing

Next Steps Convene work group Draft methodology for using mobile scanner on major traffic structures –Must include data model for inventory and attributes Test methodology and process Analyze and recommend
