Year 10 Parent Information Evening Thursday 6th October 2016

Your children have made a great start to their GCSE courses. Much of this will affirm what you already know. The most important person is your child. Them, you and us: we are all in this together.

Reformed GCSEs All rests on the final exam with little or no controlled assessment. Significant increase in subject content with a need to learn facts/quotations/formulae. In most subjects there is no Foundation/Higher tier. They are much tougher ‘rigorous’ than previous GCSEs.

Reformed GCSEs. New GCSE Approximate Equivalence to Old GCSE 9 Top 25% of those currently achieving an A * 8 A* 7 A 6 B 5 2/3 of a grade higher than a current C 4 C 3 D 2 E 1 F/G

Reports Issued 3 times a year Provide a snapshot view of the progress of your child Allows a judgement about how engaged your child is in their learning

Reports Currently working at will indicate whether your child is on track to achieve their expected GCSE number grade Aspirational grade will always be one grade higher than target grade – and students will be given feedback that helps them to access this aspirational grade

Progress Teacher Assessment Exceeding Expected This indicates that your child is exceeding their expected progress Meeting expected This indicates that your child is meeting expected progress Not yet meeting  This indicates that your child is not yet there, but is making progress Of concern  This indicates that there is a problem with the progress of your child and that intervention is required.
