2 Research has highlighted there’s a direct link between parental involvement and children’s performance in school. One survey, commissioned by Becta, of 1,000 children and 1,000 parents of children came to the following conclusion: “Researchers have found a consistent link between increasing parental engagement in a students’ learning and improved attendance, behaviour and achievement – the parent/carer’s influence on a child’s learning is more important than the schools.”

3  Support the school in supporting your child  Discuss progress with them  Encourage them to get grade 1’s ( outstanding ) for their Effort, Homework & Attitude  Take decisive action when 3, 4 or 5 grades regularly crop up.  Come to Parents’ Consultation evenings & Progress Review Days

4  Monitor homework  Help them to set & achieve targets for improvement  Sign your child’s planner on a weekly basis  Ensure your son or daughter prepares fully for the main examination periods  Ensure the best possible attendance for your son or daughter

13  Exams: (worth 67%) Jan 14 th and Jan 20 th (33.3%) May 28 th and June 9 th (33.3%)  Coursework: (worth 33%) Will begin in January of Y10 and run until the end of March  We expect students to be aiming to score above their MTG in the coursework

14  Exams: (worth 17% in each subject) Biology - May 26 th ; Chemistry - June 22 nd Physics – June 24 th  Coursework: (worth 33.3% in each subject) Will begin in November and run until the end of March  In terms of the whole GCSE:  Y9 was worth 17%  Y10 is worth 50%  Y11 will be worth 33%

15 Two GCSEs - English and English Literature. English taught through Year 10. English Examined in Year 11, November 2010. Re-sit English available in June 2010. English Literature taught from November in Year 11. English Literature examined in June 2011.

20  Worth 19% of the final grade  Examined on 13 th November 2009  Two papers are examined back to back  Calculator and then Non-calculator  The work is based on Data Handling and Probability

21  Worth 27% of the final grade  Examined in June of Year 10  Two papers examined back to back  Calculator and then Non-calculator  The work is based on Number  Harder than Module 1

22  Worth 55% of the final grade  Examined in June of Year 11  Two papers examined roughly a week apart  Calculator and Non-calculator  The work is based on Algebra and Shape and Space  The most challenging module of the three
