1 Target Setting and monitoring in year 7

2  To provide students with a meaningful aim for the end of year and end of GCSEs  To allow students to track their progress in each subject throughout the year.  To stretch and challenge students to aim higher…. Why set targets?

3  Students in year 6 achieve a scaled score  Hard to convert to GCSE grades  Use CATs and Baseline assessments to establish starting points  These are used to provide GCSE estimates How Targets are set across subjects?

4  Will use a 1 to 9 scale New GCSE grading system

5  End of GCSE estimate = 8  End of year 10 = 7  End of year 9 = 6  End of year 8 = 5  End of year 7 = 4 Estimate achievement

6  Staff will adapt assessments for the new system  Students who have not achieved 1 will be working towards  In certain subjects, initial grades will be lower. Eg Languages, History, Art Assessing progress

7  Initial Targets will be set by the end of September.  These will be reviewed in Term 2, and may change.  Targets will be written in planners and subject books.  Students will have an End of Year 7 Target. In year 7

8  Teachers assess home learning tasks and should assess at least two pieces of work per term using a grade.  Teachers log the results in Mark Books which are then monitored by Heads of Subject.  At the end of each term students will be given an Engagement for Learning grade and a Currently Working At Grade.  Senior Leadership team monitor progress identifying both excellent achievement and under achievement. 9  1 – Outstanding  2 – Good  3 – Requires Improvement  4 – Inadequate* * Parents should be contacted. Based on Ofsted criteria and agreed by school Council. Engagement for Learning (Previously Effort Grades)

11  Graded as sub- graded and based on tests and homeworks.  Sub-Grades Currently Working At Grade 7 7a – Secure at this level 7b – Significant evidence at this level 7c – Some evidence at this level 6 6a – Secure at this level 6b – Significant evidence at this level 6c – Some evidence at this level

12 Teachers will provide constructive feedback on Home Learning tasks Regular assessment should be evident throughout your daughter’s exercise books/ folders. Teachers will provide written comment on strengths and identify targets for improvement Parental feedback on homework is always welcome. On Going Feedback

13  All departments offer support beyond the lesson. Subject Surgeries are run during lunchtimes.  Form tutors monitor student progress and will discuss with their students during form interviews.  Sixth Form Academic Mentors can provide 1-2-1 support where necessary.  Student Support track students progress alongside the Senior Management Team.  Parent’s evening and year 10 interview with parents.  Parents evening separated into two this year.
