1 Year 7 Parent Information Evening Thursday 6th October 2016

2 Your children have made a great start!
Much of this will affirm what you already know. The most important person is your child. Them, you and us: we are all in this together.

3 Year 7 is an important year
Vital in developing the skills and attitudes that will enable GCSE success in future years. Children will settle in. Children will become more independent. Children will meet new people.

4 Year 7 is year of opportunity
Chance to experience new subjects. Chance to take part in extra curricular activities.

5 Parents can help form positive routines
Bag packing. Presentation. Homework Proof reading Getting up/going to bed Uniform

6 Parents need to be the BOSS
Breakfast Organisation Sleep Showing an interest

7 How can you check how they have settled in?
Do they know who their form tutor is? Can they tell which lessons they have on a particular day? Can they tell you the subjects they have homework? Can they point to the map of the school and locate their lessons? You will be receiving ‘Settling in Calls’ this week from the tutor. Remember to telephone/ at any point if needed.

8 Reports Issued 3 times a year Provide a snapshot view of the progress of your child Allows a judgement about how engaged your child is in their learning

9 They will be profiled using:
Reports Progress description will indicate whether your child is on track based on information we have compiled on them They will be profiled using: KS2 teacher assessment information Baseline tests conducted in the first weeks at Nailsea School CAT data once this is received

10 Reports The student profile will be based on historical understanding of what the information we collate on your child tells us about their future potential outcomes The profile is an indicator – it provides a flight path for their attainment that we can make judgements against This will be reviewed at least annually Assessment practices will ensure that there is no cap on the potential attainment of your child

Exceeding Expected This indicates that your child is exceeding their expected progress Meeting expected This indicates that your child is meeting expected progress Not yet meeting  This indicates that your child is not yet there, but is making progress Of concern  This indicates that there is a problem with the progress of your child and that intervention is required.

13 4 3 Behaviour in Lessons Effort
Behaviour in Lessons Effort 4 Achieving mostly 4s indicates that your child: Consistently demonstrates excellent behaviour. Is willing to fully engage with their learning. Always follow the Golden Rules. Receives no behaviour points. Follows all instructions. Quickly settles down to complete the work set to a consistently high standard. Demonstrates a strong commitment to learning. Displays resilience and tenacity. Remains focussed on learning. Sets themselves high standards of application. Uses a range of strategies to fully develop their ideas. Shows a willingness to take responsibility for their own learning. Has a good level of independence. Actively seeks, responds positively to, and acts upon feedback. 3 Achieving mostly 3s indicates that your child: Regularly demonstrates good behaviour Is willing to engage with their learning, but this occasionally needs to be prompted. Follows the Golden Rules. Rarely receives behaviour points Follows instructions. Is willing to settle down to complete the work set to a good standard. Demonstrates a good commitment to learning. Displays a degree of resilience. Sometimes needs to be encouraged to work to their best effort. Shows good focus on learning. Sets themselves good standards of application. Occasionally needs encouragement to utilise strategies to fully develop their ideas. Sometimes need to be encouraged to take responsibility for their learning Is increasingly independent in their learning. Is willing to act upon feedback, when given.

14 Behaviour in Lessons If your child achieves mostly 4s, to improve even further, they could: Endeavour to learn from setbacks and mistakes. Find opportunities to seek, respond positively to, and act upon feedback. Be a role model to other students. If your child achieves mostly 3s, to improve they would need to: Demonstrate even greater willingness to take responsibility for their learning. Immediately focus on their work. Be ready to listen at the beginning of the lesson.

15 Effort in Lessons If your child achieves mostly 4s, to improve they would need to: Be resilient. Don’t give up. Be a role model to other students. Seek even greater challenge in their work. Ask more questions to promote their own learning. If your child achieves mostly 3s, to improve they would need to: Aim to achieve house points by demonstrating greater effort with their work in lessons. Review their work and look for opportunities to improve it further. Demonstrate a willingness to continue to improve. Seek more challenging activities. Organise their time effectively and meet all deadlines.

16 Show My Homework All students have now received their log in details.
An app can be downloaded to your phone. Enables regular monitoring of homework that is set.

17 If a block is greyed out the deadline has passed.
Coloured blocks represent tasks. The number in the corner of the block counts down to the due date. If a block is greyed out the deadline has passed.

23 Additions to the Curriculum
Personal Development Curriculum – tutor time tasks and work completed throughout the year. 3 Citizenship Days – Wednesday 9th November, Wednesday 15th March, Tuesday 4th July

24 Extra Curricular Opportunities
Students were invited to Fresher’s fair held in our Atrium during lunch time. This allowed them to find out and sign up to any extra curricular clubs we have on offer.

25 Rewards Students achieve 30 house points every week.
Additional points are given for a variety of reasons. Points total monitored for both the house championship and individual rewards.
