The nature of Leadership Leadership & Vision

Leadership Leadership: Inspiring others to work hard and accomplish objectives. What’s the difference between management and leadership? Warren Bennis - too many americans “over manage and under led”. Grace Hooper - You manage things, you lead people *One of the most popular management topics (one of the four functions of management) To suceed as a leader in our new workplace, one must be good at dealing with all aspects of communication, interpersonal relations, motivation, job design, teamwork, and change. “Great Leaders” – “Get extraordinary things done in organizations by inspiring and motivating others toward a common purpose.”

Visionary Leadership Leaders who have an exceptional focus for the future and know how to get there. Visionary Leaders are… Pioneers Enthusiastic Lead by example Leadership is associated with vision – a future that one hopes to create or achieve in order to improve upon the present state of affairs. Extraordinarily good at turning their visions into concrete results. Involves communicating one’s vision in such a way that others commit their hard work to its fulfillment A leader is considered to be someone… with vision and the ability to articulate that vision to the team, so vividly and powerfully that it also becomes their vision. Fivi

Five Principles of Visionary Leadership Challenge the Process - Be a pioneer, support ideas Show Enthusiasm - Inspire others Help others to act - Be a team player Set the Example - Consistent role model Celebrate achievements - Rally hearts and minds All of these are done on top of: making longterm plans, drafting budgets, structures and assigning jobs, beyond making sure that the results are consistent with the original plan. Leadership and vision means doing these things and more. It means beginning with a clear vision, communicating that vision to all concerned, getting people motivated and inspired to pursue the vision in their daily work. Brining meaning to the work that people do – making what they do worthy and valuable.
