Student Services Advisory Council Henry H. Filer Middle School October 2016

Role of the Advisory Council Advisory councils are made up of students, parents, teachers, school counselors, administrators and community members. The role of the council is to review and make recommendations about school counseling program activities and results.

What is RAMP? Recognized ASCA Model Program (RAMP) This designation is awarded by ASCA (American School Counselor Association) for those schools whose counseling department delivers a comprehensive, data-driven school counseling program that meets stringent standards.

ASCA National Model It is systematically delivered to all students “Comprehensive school counseling programs, driven by student data and based on standards in academic, career and personal/social development, promote and enhance the learning process for all students.” ASCA Executive Sumary It is systematically delivered to all students It ensures equitable access to a rigorous education for all It identifies knowledge and skills to be attained It is based on data-driven decision making

Mission Statements MIAMI-DADE COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS (M-DCPS) MISSION STATEMENT To be the preeminent provider of the highest quality education that empowers all students to be productive lifelong learners and responsible global citizens. HENRY H. FILER MIDDLE SCHOOL MISSION STATEMENT Henry H. Filer Middle School enriches the community through a multicultural education experience. This sets the groundwork for high school and prepares students to become productive members of the workforce and of society in an advanced technological age. The school addresses the needs of the whole individual, and the school provides a center for community activities.

Student Services Department Mission Statement The mission of Henry H. Filer Middle School’s Comprehensive School Counseling Program is to support all students to reach their maximum potential through high academic achievement, social/emotional growth, and health and wellness. By doing so, all students will be college and career ready, and world-class citizens in a multicultural 21st century technology-driven global society. Our comprehensive school counseling program promotes equity, access and success for all students and engages them to pursue academic rigor and resiliency by identifying and addressing barriers allowing students to become life-long learners. In partnership with administrators, teachers, parents, and community members, the school counselors advocate to provide a safe environment which inspires a culture of acceptance and cultural sensitivity.

Vision Statements DISTRICT VISION STATEMENT - The vision of Dade-County Public Schools is to provide a world class education for every student.  SCHOOL VISION STATEMENT  Henry H. Filer Middle School prepares students to reach their maximum potential. The school’s educational community and stakeholders are dedicated to educating students so that they become lifelong learners in a complex and competitive society. We will continue to enrich the community through the development of the academic program and enhancement of technology, with emphasis on character education, so that students become productive citizens.

Student Services Department Vision Statement   Henry H. Filer Middle School’s Student Services Department strives to prepare all students to reach their maximum potential through a collaborative effort with students, parents, counselors, teachers, administrators and community members. We strive to enrich the community through the development of an equitable program that fosters self-confidence, life-long learning, and positive attitudes to become productive citizens who value diversity in a complex, global and technologically competitive society who are college and career ready. Students at Henry H. Filer are considerate, diverse, world-class citizens who are responsible, open-minded and prepared to face the challenges of a 21st century competitive and global workforce. 

GOALS Discipline Goal Attendance Goal By June 2017, the total number of 6th-8th grade students who accrued more than 10 absences will decrease by 5% from 34% (313 students in 2015-2016) to 29% (212 students based on initial 2016-2017 enrollment of 784) at the conclusion of the 2016-2017 school year. By June 2017, the total number of indoor suspensions for all 6th-8th grade students will decrease by 5% from 12% (111 students in the 2015-16) to 7% (55 students- based on 2016-17 enrollment of 784) at the conclusion of the 2016-2017 school year.  

GOALS (cont…) ACADEMIC GOAL By June 2017, the number of 6th-8th grade students as At-Risk on the Early Warning Systems (EWS) Indicator District Report (563) passing all core academic courses (Language Arts, Math, Science, Social Studies) will increase by 10 percent.
