Romeo and Juliet Key Scenes

Intro A short summary of both of the plays you have studied. ↓ Main Analysis 4 quotes (PEE Paragraphs) from each key scene (16 in total). Explain how each quote shows presents the idea of love. Conclusion How is love shown – in a good or bad way? 2. Would the opinion of the love change in the 1600’s and the 2000’s?

In other words… Use lots of quotes. Mention any ‘love’ words. Refer to the theme of love a lot. Link to The Tempest as often as possible. Write about why people would like the play in the 1600’s and the 2000’s.

Your key focus: Highlight anything that shows the theme of love.

Act 1 Scene 5 In this scene… The Capulet family are having a party. Romeo and Juliet meet for the first time. Tybalt recognises Romeo but is told not to start a fight Romeo and Juliet fall in love at first sight - At the end of the scene they realise they should be enemies

Example Question: How does this scene show ‘Love’? When Romeo says “did my heart love til now?” it shows love. This shows love because he is suggesting that he has never been in love before. (C) Quote + this shows The word ‘now’ suggests that he feels that he was not in love with other women he has been with. (B) Language analysis This happens early on in the play, which shows the audience that Romeo can fall in love quite quickly. (A) Structure analysis

Act 5 Scene 3 In this scene… Romeo returns to Verona thinking that Juliet is dead. After killing Paris, he drinks a lethal poison and dies next to Juliet. Juliet wakes up, Friar Lawrence arrives and tries to get her to leave. She will not leave Romeo. She takes his dagger and kills herself.
