8th grade warm ups for Week of 12-4-17

Monday (Mon.) 12-4-17 EQ: How are balanced and unbalanced forces related to an object’s motion? WU: What does an object have to have in order to move? Ans: In order for an object to move it must have an unbalanced force, which is a push or pull, applied to a object.

Tuesday (Tues.) 12-5-17 WU: What is the result of an unbalanced force acting on an object? Ans: Unbalanced force cause a change in the object’s motion. It travels in the direction of the stronger force.

Wednesday (Wed.) 12-6-17 WU: What happens to an object’s motion when the forces acting on it are balanced? Ans: When balanced forces act on an object, the object does not move.

Thursday(Thurs.) 12-7-17 EQ: How is friction useful? WU: In what direction does friction act? Ans: 1: Friction always acts in the opposite direction in relationship to the direction the object is moving. 2: Ex: 1: a rolling chair—you push out/forward to go back. 2: mowing your yard

Friday (Fri.) 12-8-17 WU: What factors determine the strength of the friction force between two surfaces? Ans: The strength of the friction force depends on how hard the surfaces push together and the type of surfaces involved.
