What is Visual Merchandising? Visual merchandising presents the entire store and its merchandise to motivate customers to buy.

5 Components of Visual Merchandising Store Image Store Front Store Interior Store Layout Interior Displays

1. Store Image The overall look of a store and the series of mental pictures / feelings it evokes. The store Name is part of the store image – it creates an image in the customer’s mind

2. Store Front Encompasses a store’s sign or logo, marquee, banners, awnings, windows, and the exterior design, ambiance , and landscaping.

3. Store Interior A continuation of the store front and must be thoughtfully developed to make it a cohesive unit. Interior fixtures, flooring, wall covering, furniture lighting, colors, interior signage, and graphics

4. Store Layout The way the store’s floor space is used to promote sales and provide customer service. Store planners help determine amount of space needed for each area Design space specific traffic patterns to encourage browsing and impulse shopping

5. Interior Displays Retailers use interior displays to: present merchandise Provide product information Reinforce advertising Attract Customers Create a favorable store image Four Types of Interior Displays Closed Displays Open Displays Point-of-Purchase Display Holiday/Store Decorations
