Year 3 Term 2 Themes SCIENCE AND ICT HUMANITIES PE AND PSHE LITERACY (History, Geography, RE) PE AND PSHE Can I compare different rocks based on appearance and their properties? Can I explain what soil is made from? Can I describe how fossils are made? We will be working scientifically by: making systematic and careful observations; setting up scientific tests and classifying data. Can I use the keyboard without looking at the keys? Can I use sequence, selection, and repetition in programs? Can I explain how a simple algorithm works? What is it like to live where the Anglo-Saxons came from? What is different / similar about England and the Netherlands? What do different people believe about god? Invasion Games: We are throwing, catching, passing (backwards!) and scoring tries in tag rugby. Gym We are developing our jumping, travelling, balancing and rolling skills Celebrating difference: We are understanding that everyone’s family is different and important to them and discussing conflict and bullying. Do you know anyone who has visited the Netherlands, Denmark or Germany? Where did they go? What did they see? What did they do? You could: Request a family day out to Charmouth (you have to book the guided fossil hunts) Investigate fossils by asking an adult to download the Natural History Museum’s free fossil app What different forms of rugby are there? What is tag rugby? Try looking on the England Rugby website . How does it differ from the other forms? Year 3 Term 2 Themes Invaders 2 (What is it like where the Anglo-Saxons came from?) Fossil hunters Class Book: The Pebble in my Pocket (Meredith Hooper and Chris Coady) LITERACY MATHS Do I know what a tenth is? Can I count up and down in tenths? Can I find a fraction of a set of objects and a fraction of a shape or number? Do I know that some fractions have the same value? Can I add and subtract fractions with the same denominator? Can I compare and order fractions? Can I solve problems that involve finding, ordering or comparing fractions? Can I join my handwriting and are my letters are all the same height and the correct distance apart from each other? Can I use the possessive apostrophe in some plurals? Can I write sentences which contain more than one clause, by using a wider range of conjunctions, such as when, if, because and although? Can I organise my writing by using headings? When I finish a piece of work can I read it through to correct some spelling and punctuation errors? Can I work out the meaning of words in the texts that I am reading? Can I predict events in stories from what has happened up to now? CREATIVE DEVELOPMENT (Art, Music, Design technology) In Art we will be developing our control and techniques through observational drawing In Music we are exploring rhythmic patterns In DT we will be investigating the mechanisms of windmills This link teaches you all about wind turbines and generating power from wind: https://www.bbc.com/bitesize/clips/z6b87ty Via a search engine (type in Topmarks fractions games) play Fraction Matcher: https://phet.colorado.edu/sims/html/fraction-matcher/latest/fraction-matcher_en.html Keep practising your memtal addition and subtraction too. You could: Read a non-fiction book or article about a famous fossil hunter Write a review of a book you have read
