Welcome to your sophomore year! 2018-2019 School year alexa Vaccaro School counselor Class of 2021

Graduation requirements Standard 24 Credit Diploma Accelerated 18 Credit Diploma 4 English 4 Math (must include Algebra 1, Geometry) 3 Science (must include Biology) 3 Science (include Biology) 1 World History 1 American History ½ US Government ½ Economics 1 Fine Arts 1 HOPE 8 Electives 3 Electives An online credit (one ½ credit course or one full credit course) 2.0 GPA Pass: Algebra 1 EOC & Reading FSA Exam Sit for: Biology EOC, Geometry EOC, US History EOC

Course recovery If I do not pass a course, I can earn credit by attending… Summer school Adult Ed. (After School Credit Recovery – English & Math offered) APEX Pasco eSchool If you have failed a HS level class, we need to meet to talk about a plan to recover the class(es) to get back on track to meet your graduation requirements!

Online course requirement You will need to complete at least one online class to meet your graduation requirements. Some classes are semester (0.5 credit) courses and some are yearlong (1.0 credit) courses. Example: Personal Fitness – 0.5 Spanish 1 – 1.0 If the course has two segments, you will need to complete both segments to meet your online requirement. FLVS vs. Pasco eSchool All online classes will count toward your GPA. Must complete a welcome call with a Parent/Guardian and your online Teacher. You must be enrolled in 1 online class for each online placeholder that you have on your schedule. If you are enrolled in a semester course, you must enroll in another semester course in January (semester 2).

University requirements Same requirements as HS with the addition of the following: Two years of the same foreign language ACT and/or SAT scores (you must register on their respective websites) Begin the college search; it is your responsibility to research admissions requirements (specific scores, courses, college requirements, etc.) Scholarship & Bright Futures Questions – See Mrs. Larimore *Applying to colleges is very competitive. Universities want to see that you have taken as many rigorous courses as possible, as well as academic electives.*

Advanced placement AP courses are a nationally recognized curriculum created by the CollegeBoard. AP classes are college-level classes. At the end of the course, you will take an AP exam. Depending on your AP score, you could earn college credit; college credit is determined by the University. Before choosing an AP course(s) for next year, you should be speaking with your current teacher. AP Expectations Forms are required for all AP classes taken on campus.

Dual enrollment Dual enrollment classes are college classes offered by Pasco-Hernando State College. When you complete the course, you earn both the high school and college credit. This begins your college transcript!  Requirements – 3.0 unweighted GPA and college readiness test scores (ACT, SAT, or PERT test) You will need to go to PHSC to take the PERT test. However, before you go to PHSC, you will need to complete the online application. This application is available on the CCMHS website under the DE link. The new electronic registration process is lengthy – you will need to let me know you plan to be a DE student and take the PERT test prior to Spring Break. Option to take on CCMHS campus (English Composition 1 & II) and/or off-campus at PHSC Post-secondary planning – what courses does your desired University want you to take? Can take in combination with AP courses Some DE classes will give you a full credit, even though it’s only a semester course (i.e., DE Introduction to Psychology – 0.5 high school credit. DE College Algebra – 1.0 math high school credit)
