3 How do I make an appointment?
Step 1 Step 2 On the desk to your left when you enter Counseling Office, pick up a Counselor Appointment Request form Fill out a Counselor Appointment Request form & your counselor will be in contact with you

4 Expectations!!! Be on time everyday Try your best everyday
Turn assignments in on time Go to tutoring if needed (B 116) Get involved with clubs and activities Ask for help from teachers/counselors/administrators ASK QUESTIONS in class!

5 Why should I meet with my counselor?
Class Schedule issues Transcript questions Credit recovery opportunities Graduation requirements Personal issues (at school or at home) Career exploration/plans -Preparation for Career -Career Pathways -College/Technical School -Scholarships

6 Dual Enrollment Dual Enrollment program provides opportunities for Georgia high school students to take college-level courses and earn concurrent credit toward a high school diploma and a college degree while still in high school. Courses may be taken before, during or after regular school hours, on the college campus, on-line or at the high school during the regular school calendar year at no cost to the student. Summer classes available as well. See your counselor for more information. Dual Enrollment meeting is November 1st at 7:00pm in the Seminar Room. Please attend

7 Graduation Requirements
Subject Units Required Courses English 4 1 unit of 9th Grade Lit and American Literature ( IB Lit or IB Lang & Lit) Math 1 unit of Algebra I 1 unit of Geometry 1 unit of Algebra II 1 additional unit of math *Math Support DOES count towards graduation however does NOT count towards entry into a 4 year college/university. Science 1 unit of Physics 1 unit of Biology 1 unit of Chemistry or Environmental Science 4th Science (e.g., Food Science, Anatomy, etc.) Social Studies 3 1 unit World History 1 unit U.S. History ½ unit Economics ½ unit American Government or Citizenship CTAE, Foreign Lang., or Fine Arts This area can be a combination *Foreign Language is not a requirement to graduate but 2 years of the same FL is required for a 4 year college Health/Personal Fitness ½ unit each  Students can exempt this requirement if they have completed 3 years of ROTC Electives  Examples – PE, Journalism, Sociology, etc. Total 23

8 What do I need to be a sophomore (10th grade) next year?
6 credits total 1 unit of English 1 unit of Math *Support classes can be used towards promotion

9 Georgia’s HOPE Program
Zell Miller Scholarship (covers 100% tuition) Must earn a 3.7 GPA in core coursework (English, Math, Science, Soc Studies, & FL) between grades 9-12 Earn at least a 1200 on the Math & Verbal portions of the SAT in one test administration or score at least a 26 composite score on the ACT HOPE Scholarship (covers approximately 85% tuition) Must earn a 3.0 GPA in core coursework (English, Math, Science, Soc Studies, & FL) between grades 9-12 HOPE Grant—available to students who are seeking a technical certificate or diploma, regardless of student’s high school GPA or gradation date.

10 Tutoring/Extra Help • Talk with your teachers to schedule a time to get extra assistance! Learn to be independent!!!! Wed, & Thurs 3:00-5:00pm -Student Success Center sign up at B116 (Afterschool buses available Wed, Thurs). •Teachers are always here to help.

11 Why it is important to maintain achieve high grades?
You want to be promoted to 10th grade You do not want to have to do credit recovery after school or attend summer school ($220 per half credit) Eligibility for sports & extra-curricular activities All your classes from Freshman Year go on your transcript Good, solid GPA (Grade point average) College & post-secondary options Scholarship opportunities including HOPE & Zell Miller Scholarships
