THE ROAD TO REVOLUTION

WE WON THE FRENCH AND INDIAN WAR! However Britain owes that $$$. And they think the Colonists should pay for it.

Proclamation Line of 1763 Great Britain does not allow colonists to settle in the Ohio territory. Mainly because the Iroquois were promised that land.

Stamp Act Taxed all legal papers such as receipts, licenses, newspapers, pamphlets, playing cards, wills, mortgages etc. This tax hit all colonists!

Townshend Acts Taxes on Tea, Glass, and many others. Ended with the Boston Massacre (except for Tea)

Boston Massacre People in Boston taunt British Soldiers. A Shot was fired, but no one could tell who did it. 5 Colonists Died. Soldiers were set free because they didn’t start it.

Because of the Townshend Acts…The Boston Tea Party Angry Bostonians dressed as Indians and raided a Tea Ship and dumped the Tea overboard.

Intolerable Act (Coercive Acts) 1774 Boston Port Bill - closed the harbor until the cost of tea was repaid. Quartering Act - troops are housed in private homes of colonists Declare Martial Law

Battles of Lexington and Concord British troops march to Lexington and Concord to get weapons 1775 Paul Revere – “The British are coming…” Minute Men rally to defend Concord. “Shot Heard round the World”
