4 Cause Effect French and Indian War (1754): The British and the colonists against the French and the Indians British didn’t want to fight any more wars with the Indians. They asked the colonists to stay on the east coast. The Proclamation Act of 1763: Don’t move west of the Appalachian Mountains. French and Indian War

Cost a lot of money. They wanted the colonists to pay for it. (This is reasonable, right? The British did fight this war for the colonists. So why were the colonists so upset? Because they didn’t have any representation in Parliament.) Sugar Act (1764): Taxed luxury items like sugar, silk, and wine. Stamp Act (1765): Taxed any and all paper goods (wills, playing cards). (Repealed in 1766.) Townshend Act (1770): Taxed tea, glass, and paint. (Repealed in 1770, except for the tea tax.) French and Indian War

Cause Effect Townshend Act Colonies boycott tea The British East India Tea Company has too much tea. They create the Tea Act (1773), which allows the British East India Tea Company to sell tea without having to pay taxes. This means that they can sell it for less than colonial tea. They run colonial merchants out of business. Townshend Act
