2 French- Indian War Began July 3, 1754 Between England and France for control over land in North America Lasted 7 years Cost England a lot of money

3 Proclamation of 1763 King George III of England No colonists may settle west of the Appalachian Mountains Indian Territory If colonists already lived there, they must move!

King George needed to pay for wars with French and Native Americans Make colonists pay! 1764 taxed sugar and wine Colonists angry! Boycott Colonists made their own

6 Stamp Act 1765 tax on anything written on paper a special stamp had to be placed on these papers to show they had been purchased Colonists boycotted British Goods King George repealed this tax 1766

11 Tea Act 1773- tax on tea Colonists reacted: Boycott English tea Boston Tea Party- Led by Samuel Adams- a group of men dressed as Native Americans boarded an English ship and dumped 342 boxes of tea into Boston Harbor!

1774- Punishment for the Boston Tea Party Any British soldier that came to your door could move into your home Boston Harbor was closed until damage was paid for All town meetings were now controlled by British

First Continental Congress one colonist from each of 12 colonies met in Philadelphia 2. Wrote to King George to end Taxation Without Representation 3. Boycotted all English goods
