Vice Chair of the Technology Executive Commitee (TEC) Presentation title Enhancing technological cooperation to assist countries in implementing Paris Agreement Workshop on South-South and Technological Cooperation for Climate Action and Sustainable Development Asia Pacific Climate Week Singapore, 13 July 2018 Ms. Dinara Gershinkova Vice Chair of the Technology Executive Commitee (TEC)

1. What is Technology Executive Committee ? Presentation title 1. What is Technology Executive Committee ? The “Policy” component of the Technology Mechanism, established 2010, comprising 20 expert members Undertakes analysis and provides policy recommendations to enhance climate technology development and transfer Promote cooperation and collaboration on climate technologies Key products: Policy briefs (TEC Briefs) Executive summaries Key messages/recommendation to COP 2

2. TEC work on South-South and Triangular cooperation Presentation title 2. TEC work on South-South and Triangular cooperation 2015: Paper on SSC on Water & Agriculture technologies 2016: Thematic dialogue on South-South and Triangular cooperation 2016: Key messages to COP22 Marrakesh 2017: TEC policy brief on SSC/TrC adaptation technologies 2017: Compilation of good practices in knowledge-sharing and practical learning Why the TEC Brief? Need to better understand potential of SSC/TrC in the context of adaptation to climate change Technologies and expertise in developing countries - more likely to be attuned to similar geoclimatic, market size, end-users level, etc 75% world population engaged in Agriculture activities; agriculture accounts for 70% of total global freshwater withdrawals Responding to two most prioritised sectors by countries’ needs identified by TNA: Agriculture (84%) Water (77%) Why the compilation? Access to this information is limited Software and orgware importance on adaptation context Unique experiences of countries Help in identifying relevant practices to advance implementation of Paris Agreement and 2030 Agenda Excerpt from Compilation of good practices A bottom-up approach that takes local practices and indigenous knowledge as a starting point for designing adaptation technology related interventions Effective communication is ensured through working with and through local institutions and partners Investing time and resources in team and trust-building in the beginning of a new project can greatly facilitate effective communication and collaboration throughout the project Demonstration of immediate benefits of the application of new knowledge and skills greatly facilitates replication and uptake 3

3. Highlights and recommendations from TEC work Presentation title 3. Highlights and recommendations from TEC work There are potential South-South and Triangular cooperation that could still be explored SSc and TrC fosters knowledge sharing and allows direct exchange SSC and TrC offer opportunities to further explore the linkages between climate change and other development areas SSC and TrC can further assist countries in implementing their priority adaptation actions, as articulated in NDCs, National adaptation plans Global mechanisms, international networks and international organizations working on this issue can play an important role in supporting the promotion of SSC and TrC on climate technologies 4

Presentation title 4. How TEC can support Raise awareness of potential technological cooperation that SSC/TrC could bring to help countries in implementing their climate action; Collaborate with other international organisations to promote the SSC and TrC Continue providing technology policy recommendations to countries on this issue 5
