Keep them reading Read your child’s work aloud to them. Put a check beside grammatical errors. Talk about content and expanding their thoughts. Help them to become their own editor.

Open House Organization Students should be prepared for class (book, notebook & paper, pencils, etc.) Check regularly to see if they need items replenished Are they using their agenda? Rigor is higher this year- many times there is nightly homework, especially the new vocabulary program, Membean, and Independent reading Please talk to your student about upcoming assignments Your participation in your student’s education will be key to their success Please check Parent Vue weekly and use my blog  (See guidance if you have a problem)

They all have study buddies I had them write down the names of 2 study buddies in their agendas and in their phones (emails and phone numbers) If they don’t understand the homework If they are absent Class log- they need to come in the morning during homeroom and read the Class Log first before they ask me what they missed.

Open House See syllabus in your student’s binder (in sheet protector in front of binder) Grade percentages: (Standards Based) Reading 35% Writing 35% Language 20% (Vocab, Grammar, Spelling) Listening//Speaking 10% (I will be giving you a copy to take home tonight)

Organized notebook I have given specific instructions how to organize their notebook, modeled this, and I have a sample notebook in the classroom. I am still in the process of checking their notebooks this week for a listening grade to make sure they are ready for the year. Their notebooks will be checked periodically. I have taught them how to head their papers with the MLA heading

Open House My email: susan.coulombe@cobbk12.org Blog cobblearning.net/scoulombe I don’t have a specific day for extra help- I’m here most mornings early and after school a lot, so the students just have to ask (I think I am going to do Thursdays) Thank you for your support and for coming this evening!
