5 Communication *If you have a question regarding a specific assignment, grade, etc., please make sure you contact the appropriate teacher. Ms. O’Connell teaches: Math, Science, Social Studies, and Health Mrs. Musial teaches: Reading, Writing, Grammar, and Spelling/Vocab

6 ELA Homework and Assessments
*Reading homework will come home weekly to help reinforce concepts taught in classroom. Written in agenda. Assigned on Tuesday due the following Tuesday. *Comprehension checks will take place on Wednesdays. *Homework should not take more than 40 minutes nightly to complete *Nightly reading minutes are not considered homework, it should be done nightly by students to maintain and strengthen their skills. Students must fill out their reading log nightly. Use Book Wizard on Blog to help.

7 ELA Homework and Assessments
*Students will have weekly spelling/vocabulary list (10 words) assigned on Fri.-Thu. Practice will take place at school and at home. *Spelling/Vocab assessments will take place on Fridays. *New lists and homework will be given to students on Fridays. Homework will be due on Thursdays.

8 Math, Science, and Social Studies
*  Math will include Number Talks, Math Workshop, small group work,     and independent stations.  * Homework will be assigned a few days a week, and will vary to match       the activities we’re doing in class. * Homework should be completed by the student. Students may be asked to teach YOU how to do their homework so that you may help/check it. *  Homework may be “FUN-STRATING!”  (Thanks, Wyatt!)  Please don’t        allow your student to spend more than 30 minutes on math homework. *  We’ll alternate between Science and Social Studies Units.

9 Math * Math may be “FUN-STRATING”!
* I’ll answer many student questions by asking them guiding questions in return. My goal is to get students to think and come up with answers on their own, but not to save them from the challenge! * The math teachers will offer resources throughout the year to help parents understand the way we teach math concepts through the Georgia Standards of Excellence. * YouCubed.org – Some of the Big Ideas of Math Math

10 Grading for Fourth Grade
B 80-89% C 74-79% D 70-73% F Below a 70% Missing work entered as a 0 until turned in A= Superior Achievement B= Above Average Achievement C=Average Achievement D=Minimal Achievement F= Failure to successfully comprehend material

11 Report Cards *Grading Scale: different from 3rd grade
