SCHEDULING INFORMATION FOR THE 10th Grade Class of 2020 Please take notes!

FIRST THINGS FIRST Your Scheduling Card is DUE back on January 19th in the Counseling Office. Feel free to turn it in earlier if it is completed. You must go online to input your classes before turning in your card. Please bring home all of these handouts to go over with your parents Make sure to take time to create a quality schedule that you can live with and fill out all alternate slots required.

READ, CONSULT and ASK before signing up for classes Read the course descriptions to make sure a class will be a good fit when selecting electives Talk with your teachers, your parents, and/or me if needed The Course Description book is your primary resource for information about classes and their prerequisites. Go to the District webpage . . . select “District Info,” click on “Curriculum and Instruction” . . . scroll down to “Links and Emails” and click on “High School Course Descriptions”

Graduation Requirements: Registration Information 22 credits are required to graduate Minimum Core classes: English: 4 credits Math: 4 credits Social Studies: 3 credits Science: 3 credits World Language: 2 credits Health & PE: 1 credit Visual, Performing, Applied Arts: 1 credit

Graduation Requirement ENGLISH: 4 credits Go to Box A and check either Language Arts 10 or Honors LA 10 Honors LA 10 - If you took/did well in Honors LA 9, or if you were a strong student in LA 9 Please consult with your Language Arts teacher if you are interested in the Honors LA10 and get their signature.

Graduation Requirement SOCIAL STUDIES: 3 credits Most Sophomores will take U.S. History – Box A AP U.S. History is challenging. Consult with your World History teacher if you are considering taking it and get their signature. If you plan on taking AP U.S. History during high school, turn in the AP form with your card. It is required. AP forms available in counseling office.

Graduation Requirement SCIENCE: 3 credits If you are currently in Physical Science, choose Biology – Box A If you are currently in Physical Science/Biology Block, then choose Chemistry – Box A If you are considering Physics, it is recommended that you have completed Algebra 2 – please consult with your science teacher

Graduation Requirement MATH: 4 credits Write in your current math class– Box B Check the next course in your math sequence and get your math teacher’s SIGNATURE in the appropriate spot. If you are currently in an Honors class and doing well, consider Honors again. If you are currently in an Honors class and doing “poorly”, consider a “regular” math class for next year. If you are currently in a regular class and getting an “A” on your assessments, speak to your current (or 1st semester) math teacher about moving into the Honors track. Regardless of your situation, a discussion with your current (or 1st semester) math teacher is highly recommended.

Graduation Requirement World Language: 2 credits Box C Required World Language You need 1-2 years of the same World Language to graduate. If you haven’t yet begun this requirement, strongly consider doing so. If you choose only one year of a World Language, you MUST take 1.0 credit “extra” in VPAA or formal CTE program with a Flex Form.

Electives Pick your electives from the 10th Grade Course Offerings sheet, and write them in Box C. Your electives should total 4 semesters. Do your research and pick wisely!

Other Graduation Requirements: Physical Education: 1 credit Option 1: Wellness 1 AND Wellness 2 (Wellness 1 is a prerequisite for Wellness 2) Option 2: PE Activity Course and Health (8th – 12th grade) Option 3: Flex – Participation in 2 seasons of a RCS approved MHSAA Sport or Marching Band is equivalent to .5 PE. Flex form must be attached to card for sports. You would then need to take the health course to complete the PE requirement.

Other Graduation Requirements: Visual Performing, Applied Arts (VPAA): 1 credit See Registration Information booklet for a list of courses that fulfill the VPAA requirements.

Band Choices - Zero Hour Box D Select Marching or Jazz Band. You cannot input this into Synergy online scheduling. Your counselor will input this for you. Be sure to mark it on your card,

Signatures Box E A parent and student signature is required for your scheduling card to be submitted.

Alternates: Box F You must include four Alternative Elective Choices in Box F You need alternatives for your Elective courses in case your electives don’t fit into your schedule. Schedules will not be processed without alternatives.

Reminders…. Please make sure your semesters on the front of the card add up to 12! Please make sure you go over this schedule with your parents. Give them time to think about it and process the information. YOU NEED A PARENT SIGNATURE!!! Input your schedule online at Synergy. Get your card in on-time (Jan. 19th) to the Counseling Office.

NCAA Requirements: If you are going to play college sports (for the school team . . . not intramurals), then you need to check the NCAA website Information on that is in the Registration Information packet.

Do your research in completing your schedule card. Don’t forget to get all your SIGNATURES! Input your scheduling information on Synergy online before turning your card in on Jan. 19th.
