3 CORRECTIONS TO BE MADE Please cross out Intro to Engineering, Computer Animation 1-2 and Photo 1-2…these are not available to seniors. Select Peer Leadership online if you are choosing TA/LabAssistant/Clerical, indicate which type on the paper copy only.

4 High School Graduation Requirements
English – 4 years (40 credits) Mathematics – 2 years (20 credits) must pass algebra and geometry Or, two years of math if you started at geometry or higher in the 9th grade Science – 2 years (20 credits) must pass one year physical science (physics or chemistry) and 1 year life science (biology) World History – 1 year (10 credits) U.S. History – 1 year (10 credits)

Government/Economics – 1 semester each (5 credits each) Fine Arts – 1 year (10 credits) Career Preparation – 1 semester (5 credits) Health/Guidance – 1 semester each (5 credits each) Physical Education – 2 years (20 credits) Elective Classes (70 credits) 220 credits (earned 9th through 12th grade)

7 +1 Honors/AP Courses Students are encouraged to take more challenging work at the secondary level Universities assign extra weight to grades in honors- level courses (for C or higher) Most AP (Advanced Placement) classes are taken the junior and/or senior year of high school All grades in required courses for colleges must be a C or higher If you sign up for an AP course and change your mind, you MUST let your counselor know by July 31st or it will remain on your schedule for a semester.

8 Honors/AP Courses +1 AP Contracts will be available when we pick up your course requests To take an AP class you must have attended the orientation for that class Placement in AP classes will be based on teacher recommendations and/or pre-requisites If you are taking an AP course, you should be planning to take the AP Exam Attending an AP Orientation AND Turning in a signed/completed contract does not guarantee placement in an AP class AP classes are year-long commitments!!!

Peer Leadership = TA/Clerical/Lab Assistant Teaching Occupations (Newcomer) Audit Class/Counselor Check= for counselor use only 12 Clark Magnet HS

16 Q Registration Step 4: “Add Selected Class”, and click SUBMIT
Please click “Submit” only once, even if you get an error message. Check your schedule an hour later. Continue this process until you have selected BOTH “A” or “1” and “B” or “2” classes.

17 Q Registration Step 5: “Add Selected Course” Step 6: Select Alternates for electives or for classes that will be taken in summer school The right hand column is where your first choices go…in this case, the 1st choice is Journalism and the alternate is Ceramics You can select alternate courses incase you do not get your first choice. First select those courses in the Add/Edit Requests mode. In the example to the left, Journalism 1, Journalism 2, Ceramics 1 and Ceramics 2 are already requested. Journalism is the FIRST choice, and Ceramics is the alternate. NOTE: DO NOT request the same alternate for more than one course. In the Add/Edit Requests mode, click the alternate course’s drop down menu in the “Alternate For” column, and select your first choice course. Click SUBMIT when done.

REMEMBER: EVERY AP course must have an alternate choice selected (You will not be able to select AP Government or AP Literature)

19 Q Registration Step 8: When submitted, you MUST print “Student Course Requests Verification Sheet”… parent signature required 12 Clark Magnet HS 8/26/1999 Attach “Student Course Requests Verification Sheet” to your planning packet and return to your counselor in your U.S. History class.

20 Q Registration Step 9: When done adding classes, and after you have printed your schedule, click “Sign Out” Your registration window begins Friday, January 27th and ends Monday, January 30th at midnight.

21 Summer School Semester 1: June 5 – June 20
Semester 2: June 21 – July 7 (July 4 – Holiday) 5 hours a day; 5 days a week Glendale Unified School District Remedial Summer School Making up an F grade in a class needed for high school graduation Making up a D/F grade in Algebra 1 or Algebra 2 Making up a D/F grade in Geometry Remedial classes are offered free of charge

22 Summer School Glendale Educational Foundation Summer School Costs have not been released yet. The numbers below are from last year Registration: check online at Payment by check or money order Enrichment Summer School You may NOT sign up for Government/Econ Regular Payment $570 for a full year course $285 for a one semester course For those on Free/Reduced Lunch $470 for a full year course $235 for a one semester course There will be NO refunds for dropping or not completing a course once it has begun.

23 How to Stay Competitive for College…
Take a challenging course schedule and do well. If you take an AP course you should take the AP exam Take initiative in pursuing your interests and passions Get involved in school activities Get involved in community service Explore leadership opportunities at school, home and in the community Strive to do your best in ALL things

24 WRAP-UP Return dates are this Monday, Jan 30th and Tuesday, January 31st in your US History/AP US History classes….come prepared! Bring: planning sheet packet (including transcript), copy of online course request verification form (Make sure your parents sign all of the above mentioned papers) Select classes with your future in mind AP Contracts will be provided when we meet with you, and must be returned by the end of the week.
