2 ONLINE ARENA SCHEDULING PROCESS Step 1: Students request courses (Jan – Feb.16) Step 2: Administration builds Master Schedule Students create schedule through Skyward Student Access during March through May.

3 ONLINE ARENA SCHEDULING PROCESS Choose course requests wisely! The courses you request determine the master schedule. If you choose not to create a schedule, one will be created for you based on graduation requirements.

4 GRADUATION PLANS RecommendedDistinguished (DAP) 26 credits 2 + years of LOTE 26 credits 3 + years of LOTE 4 Advanced Measures * 3+ AP Test Score * PSAT Qualifying Score * Dual Credit (1 for each)

5 Hints for course selection Choose classes that will challenge, but not overwhelm you. Choose classes based on your post secondary goals and interests NOT what classes your friends are choosing. Gains in G.P.A and class rank come from a combination of challenging courses AND good grades. Talk to your teacher for advice!

6 PROGRAM OF STUDIES BOOK Please review the many different elective choices available in the POS book. A description of each course is available and can help you make choices about classes that will be of interest to you. The Program of Studies book is online. Located on the GCISD website under parents and students.

7 REQUIRED COURSES - ENGLISH Four years of English are required for graduation. English I English II English III English IV

8 REQUIRED COURSES - MATH Students are required to take four Math courses consisting of o Algebra 1 o Geometry o Algebra II o 4 th year math * Math Models will satisfy one of the 4 required math credits. Students must complete Math Models prior to Algebra II.

10 REQUIRED COURSES - SCIENCE Students are required to take four science courses consisting of Biology Chemistry Physics Science Elective

11 Required courses – Social Studies Students are required to take four social studies courses consisting of o World Geography o World History o United States History o U.S. Government (0.5 credit) o Economics (0.5 credit)

12 ADDITIONAL REQUIRED COURSES Professional Communications -.5 credits Health -.5 credits Fine Arts – 1 credit Foreign Language – 2 credits (3 for Distinguished Plan) Technology – 1 credit – noted with (T) on selection sheet Physical Education – 1 credit Electives – 4.0

13 COURSES & ALTERNATES Make sure to fill in enough courses to make a full 8 period schedule. (A & B days) Deadline is February 16 th Speak with parents about selections

14 ALTERNATE COURSES You must enter a total of 5 credits of alternate courses into Skyward. (10 semesters) The only classes you will have access to register for during arena scheduling are your requested courses and alternates. Choose wisely!

15 IMPORTANT REMINDERS Local credits cannot be counted towards the 26 state required credits.

16 SKYWARD REGISTRATION Use Student Log-in Click on ‘Schedule,’ and then ‘Select Courses for 2015-2016’ Note parent login will not work

17 COURSE NUMBERS Enter course number from selection sheet (or you can enter course name) For full year classes you will need to enter both semesters ( ex. 0101A and 0101B)

18 COURSE NUMBERS Some courses, such as athletics, choir and band, will have a fifth digit (1-4) Indicates the number of times a student has taken the class NOT the student’s grade classification. (ex. 05081A is the first year a player has played football even if they are a Junior)

19 NEXT STEPS Students will create their schedules during the arena scheduling windows listed below: Rising Seniors – March 30-April 1st Rising Juniors April 13-15 th Utilize the CHHS Counseling Webpage for planning Arena Instructional Video Planning Information

20 NEXT STEPS Students will have two opportunities to request adjustments to their schedules once built through the arena scheduling process. June 8-12 August 3-6 ONE request per student may be submitted electronically during each window. Counselors will make schedule adjustments based on course and space availability. The rights to the schedule created during arena scheduling are relinquished if adjustments are requested.
