Lippincott Procedures You can use Lippincott Procedures to: search for procedures easily and quickly, regardless of your computer experience find accurate, up-to-date information at the point of care gain quick access to the procedures, checklists, images, and videos you need. complete assigned skills competency tests. You can use this product to help provide the best patient care possible. For the next few minutes, take a tour of your new resource and see that our clinically-focused content and easy-to-use interface make Lippincott Procedures the point of care reference and training tool you’ll turn to!

Search Options With Lippincott Procedures, you can find accurate, up-to-date information at the point of care. The first thing you’ll see when you open Lippincott Procedures is this main search screen. There’s no log-in required, so you can get started right away.

Search Options You can find a procedure in various ways. One search option is to use the keyword search, where you can type in a keyword or keywords. You can choose whether you would like to search for that term in either the procedure title or full text. [click] Note that when you type just a few letters, the program will provide you with a list of options based on procedure titles.

Search Options Another way to search for a procedure is to select a nursing category, and then, if desired, a corresponding subcategory. A list of procedures from those categories will appear alphabetically on the right-hand side of your screen.

Search Options Alternately, you can simply view the entire alphabetical list of procedures offered and find the one you need, without selecting a specific category.

Search options If you choose to search and misspell a word, don’t worry. Lippincott Procedures will help you find the term you mean.

Search Options For our purposes, let’s continue to search for PICC insertion. When you search, the term is highlighted within the results so you can quickly scan and look for the procedure or listing you are seeking. You are also able to filter the results using the filer menu on the left side.

Viewing a procedure When you reach a procedure, you’ll see that the full procedure appears onscreen. You will also note that the left-hand side of the screen contains a menu bar featuring the heading names for the separate sections that make up a procedure. These include an introduction, equipment needed, preparation guidelines, implementation steps, special considerations, patient teaching, complications, documentation, and references. These headings will appear for each procedure so you will know how to find specific sections easily. By checking or un-checking “Custom select” boxes, you can view a procedure in its entirety or customize your procedure and view only specific sections. Also by clicking on a heading name in that “Custom Select” menu, you can jump quickly and directly to that section of the procedure.

Viewing a Procedure You will also notice the menu tabs across the top of the screen. These tabs contain supplementary content for each procedure, including skills checklists, videos (when available), images (when available), and quick lists. Let’s look at each of these tabs.

Navigating Tabs This is the skills checklist for the PICC insertion procedure. It contains a step-by-step checklist of all the actions you need to take to perform the procedure. You can use the skills checklists as a refresher or as a training or competency tool. Each procedure is linked with at least one skills checklist.

Navigating Tabs This is the videos tab. Many procedures include videos that demonstrate critical steps of the procedure being performed. This is a great tool to use so that you can see a procedure in action before performing it. To view a video, simply select a video title from the left-hand column and then click the “Play Now” button.

Navigating Tabs You can also watch a video within a procedure. Simply click on the video icon shown here and the video will pop up on screen and you can click on the forward arrow to play. This example shows a video for the PICC insertion procedure. Also shown here is an example of an in-text image. You can view images in the procedure itself or, if you just want to see all the images that go with a procedure, click on the Images tab.

Navigating Tabs The images tab is where you will find photos, illustrations, and diagrams that accompany a procedure. Hundreds of color images illustrate procedure steps, making them easier to understand. Click on an image caption name on the left-hand side of your screen, and that image will appear in larger format on the main screen.

Navigating Tabs This is the quick lists tab. Here, you can view a less-detailed version of the procedure steps. It’s a great way to get a quick refresher when you are in a time-sensitive situation and just need a reminder of the key actions you need to take. Each procedure is linked with at least one quick list. Select a title from the list on the left-hand side of the screen and that quick list will appear in bulleted format on the main screen.

Additional Options In addition, you can use the print option to print part of or an entire procedure, a skills checklist, an image, or a quick list. To print the text of a procedure, click the Print Page icon. Only selected sections of a procedure print. Sections that are not checked will not print. You can also email a page or procedure. To email the link to a procedure, click the Email Page icon. Lippincott Procedures emails the recipient a link to the procedure. Email recipients must have network access to Lippincott Procedures by username and password or IP authentication in order to view the procedure text.

Competency Testing Also available within Lippincott Procedures is competency tests that correspond to each of the procedures. There is one standard test for every standard procedure. You have the ability to take these tests from any location, regardless of IP authentication. Tests must be assigned to you by your nurse manager or educator. To access the tests as a user, log-in using the screen at the upper right using the username and password assigned to you by your facility administrator to access.

Account Page From this page, you select any test from the list of assigned tests, review the associated procedure, and take the test. You are also able to view all completed tests including selected answers, the correct answer, and the rationale for the correct answer.

Competency Tests Competency tests are multiple choice and each test includes 5-15 questions and answers that relate to that specific procedure. [click] After completion, you can view your selected answers, the correct answer, and the rationale for the answer.

Additional Options If you need additional help, just refer to the Help button onscreen. It can guide you through searching for a procedure, browsing procedures, viewing a full procedure or sections of a procedure, and navigating the various tabs. [click] You will also notice a link in the upper right that directs you to Lippincott Advisor if you have access to it as well in your facility.

Lippincott Procedures It’s that simple! In just minutes, you’ve mastered Lippincott’s Nursing Procedures and Skills and now have access to superior content that’s quick and easy to use.
