Water Water is the most common solvent. A solvent is a substance that dissolves other materials. Solute is the substance that dissolves in the water, the substance is said to be soluble A substance that does not dissolve is insoluble

Solute + Solvent = Solution. A solution is a mixture of a solute and a solvent.

A Solution is mixture of a solute which is dissolved in a solvent
