Homogenous Mixtures Heterogeneous Mixtures A mixture where the components that make up the mixture are uniformly distributed throughout the mixture. A mixture where the components of the mixture are not uniform and can be seen clearly. SOLUTIONS!

4 DISSOLVE: To form a solution by mixing it with a liquid

5 PARTS OF A SOLUTION Solvent: “what is doing the dissolving” – usually a liquid Solute: “what is being dissolved” – usually the solid

6 “WATER IS THE UNIVERSAL SOLVENT”
One of the most valuable properties of water is ability to dissolve many different substances.

7 SOLUTE VS. SOLVENT YOU ADD THE SOLUTE (SOLID) INTO THE SOLVENT
When making iced tea, you add the sugar into the water and then mix it. The sugar is the solute and the water is the solvent. Usually more solvent than solute.

8 SOLUTION: Is the process by which a gas, liquid, or solid is homogenously spread within a gas, liquid, or solid without chemical change. Formation of a solution is considered a physical change.

9 SOLUBLE vs. INSOLUBLE SOLUBLE: will dissolve in a liquid
Depend on temperature As temperature increases, most solid and liquid solutes become more soluble, whereas gas solutes become less soluble INSOLUBLE: will not dissolve in a liquid Still solid within the liquid

10 CONCENTRATION Amount of solute that is dissolved per amount of solvent

11 SATURATION The process that occurs when no more of something can be absorbed, combined with or added.
