Citations Parenthetical citation in MLA format is required in all research papers. A paper without parenthetical citation is a plagiarized paper and WILL NOT be graded.

Citation Requirements English 9: 1 citation/body paragraph English 10: 2 citations/body paragraph AP English 10: 2 citations/body paragraph All 11 and 12 classes: 2-3 citations/body paragraph

Citations All citations must adhere to MLA standard format. Information that is not recorded or cited correctly from a source is considered plagiarism.

Citations Print source: Author’s last name and page number (Smith 12) Electronic source: Author’s last name or article title if there is no author (Smith) (“Animal Welfare”)

Works Cited Page Required number of sources: English 9: 3 English 10 Classes: 5 English 11 Classes: 6-7 English 12 Classes: 8-10 All sources must come from the CRHS library or its databases, or they must be approved by your teacher.

Works Cited Page MLA Format Continue running header Works Cited centered at top of page Alphabetical order Reverse/hanging indent Double spaced Titles of books/websites/periodicals in italics Titles of articles/short stories in quotation marks No numbering, lettering, or bulleting

Works Cited Page All works cited in the paper must be included on the works cited page. All works listed on the works cited page must be cited in the paper.

Works Cited Page A works cited page must be included with both the first and final draft of the paper. A paper without a works cited page is considered a plagiarized paper and will not be accepted. A final draft without a works cited page will receive an immediate zero as a plagiarized paper.

Revision According to the standards (CCW.5) students must “develop and strengthen writing by planning, revising, editing, rewriting, or trying a new approach, focusing on addressing what is most significant for a specific purpose and audience.”

Revision You are required to turn in two drafts – a first draft and a final, revised draft. If you only turn in one draft, you will get a zero on the final until that second draft is turned in to the teacher. The 1st draft must be turned in with the final draft to provide evidence of significant revision.

Revision Revision requires substantial improvement in one or more of the following: Organization Content Development

Revision Editing and revision are not the same thing. Teachers will not mark every single grammatical/spelling/punctuation error. They will mark the first occurrence of each type of error. It is the student’s responsibility to proofread the paper and make the changes throughout the paper.

Electronic Copies You may be required by your teacher to turn in an electronic copy of your paper so that it can be checked for plagiarism. Accepting electronic versions in lieu of a hard copy of the research paper is solely at the discretion of the teacher.

Late Research Elements *According to standard CCW.10, students must “write routinely over extended time frames (time for research, reflection, and revision) and shorter time frames (a single sitting or a day or a two) for a range of tasks, purposes, and audiences. An appropriate time frame has been chosen for your project. Late research elements will lose 5 points from the Range of Writing grade and can deduct up to 20% from the overall final paper grade.

Late Research Elements Research papers must be handed directly to the teacher no later than 3PM on the date they are due. Placing your paper anywhere but in the hands of the teacher will cause the paper to be considered late. Even if you are absent, your paper needs to be turned in on the due date.
