High School Graduation Requirements A Student Must: Earn a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.0 in coursework taken in grades 9-12 Earn at least 44 credits Meet 2.0 citizenship requirement Pass all required courses Fitnessgram

Types of Colleges Community Colleges Technical/Career colleges (careful research on cost) California State University (CSU) University of California (UC) Out-of-State public universities (scholarships for CA) Private universities (need-based scholarships) HBCUs - Historically Black Colleges and Universities Women’s Colleges International Universities (possible to get BA in 3 yrs) 7

Community Colleges Must be 18 years old or have a high school diploma Applications can be submitted during spring of Senior Year First Year Experience (FYE) Do not need to take the SAT or ACT No letters of recommendation or essay required Six UC campuses offer the Transfer Admission Guarantee (TAG) program for California community college students. Must apply and meet requirements. Certificate programs and job training programs Athletic programs A few have housing available (College of the Redwoods, Feather River, Marymount, Mt. Saint Mary’s, Santa Monica, Shasta, etc.)

CSU/UC/Private & Other Universities (Bachelor’s degree) Requirements A. History/Social 2 years: World History, U.S. History/Government B. English 4 years: English 9, 10, 11, 12 C. Math Minimum 3 years of college prep math. 4 years highly recommended. D. Laboratory Science 2 years of lab science (Bio + Chem OR Physics required 3 years of lab science is highly recommended. E. Foreign Language Proficiency equal to 2 years same language 3 years is highly recommended F. Visual/Performing Arts 1 year of college prep course from UC approved courses. G. College Preparatory Elective 1 year of college prep electives (Academic) Test Requirements SAT or ACT

Preparing for College Keep track of any extracurricular activities, sports, or community service activities Consider taking SAT Subject tests in classes that you do well in this year, such as AP World History Take practice entrance exams during 10th-11th grades which are held in the month of October Plan on taking the SAT and/or ACT tests in the spring of your Junior year. Begin to research available financial aid –Scholarships and student loans. Start saving now! Parents and students should visit potential college campuses
