Temperature, Thermal Energy and Heat Temperature Scales The three common scales for measuring temperature are the Fahrenheit, Celsius, and Kelvin scales. In the United States, Fahrenheit is the most common scale, divided in degrees Fahrenheit (ºF). In nearly all other countries, Celsius is the most common scale, divided in degrees Celsius (ºC). The scaled most commonly used in physical science is the Kelvin Scale, with units called kelvins (K).
