Lab Expectations Always Arrive on Time. Be prepared to work everyday. Respect yourself and others. Maintain professionalism. Take responsibility for your actions, work, and learning.

Cell Phone & Personal Device Policy Cell phones and personal devices are not allowed to be used in the child care lab for any reason. If you choose to keep your cell phone in your pocket, it must be on silent and cannot be taken out. Using your devices to take pictures or videos of children, fellow students, teachers, or to use social media sites is not permitted and against the law. Any student who takes a picture/video in the lab and/or posts it online is in danger of getting suspended or removed from the course. The center is a business, has rules and laws it must abide by, and parents trust that we will not do anything to harm or exploit their children. Students do not have permission to take pictures or videos of any child enrolled in our center.

Food and Drink Policy In order to maintain a clean environment and prevent allergy issues, food will not be permitted in the child care lab. This includes candy. Water is permitted but no other drinks are allowed. All water bottles must be thrown out before leaving the classroom.

Bathroom Policy Lab students no longer have permission to use the bathroom in my classroom or the child care lab. It will be important to use the bathroom in between classes. There are times when one must use the bathroom during class time. For these times students will be able to use the bathroom pass. The students name and time must be recorded on the pass. Abuse of the pass will result in revoking your pass privilege. Students may not use the pass the first and last 15 minutes of class.

Behavior Expectations First and foremost the child care lab is a licensed child care center. This means that it is governed by laws. The center is also a Teen Parenting program that is governed by its own rules. In order to protect our children, parents, and child care staff you must comply with the laws and rules. If you refuse to abide by the laws and rules you may get suspended and/or removed from the course. Your behavior effects the other lab students, teachers, but most importantly our children. The following behaviors are deemed inappropriate and unacceptable. -Coming to class late or leaving early -Using or having your phone out in the lab -Listening to music -Yelling at the children, other lab students, or teachers -Having inappropriate conversations in the lab -Having a conversation when you are supposed to be interacting with the children -Cursing or using inappropriate language in the lab -Talking about the children, parents, other lab students, and/ or teachers outside the lab -Refusing to follow directions 2. 1. What else can be considered a disruption?

Consequences Minor Infractions: student will receive 3 verbal warnings. If behavior continues a parent/guardian will be contacted. Major Infractions: depending on the behavior a verbal warning may be issued. Removal from classroom, referral, and parent/guardian contact will be the consequences used for bullying, fighting, and insubordination.

Lab Procedures Entering the lab: Place your backpacks in the middle hallway closet. Check for assignments posted on the cabinet above the sink in the middle hallway. Students need to report to their assigned lab room. Don’t worry, if you are in a room with an age group you are not comfortable with you will get a chance in every room. You have to get experience with each age group. You are to be interacting with the children the entire class period. Sitting is only permitted if you are sitting with a child. There are times when there aren’t many children present so the teacher may assign you some duties like sanitizing toys, preparing activities, and decorating lab rooms to name a few. Students cannot go into an empty lab room to “hang out”. If there is no work to do in the lab you will have to come into my class and work on the work I have assigned. Leaving early can disrupt the children. I am aware that sometimes you will get checked out early but please try to keep it to a minimum. End of class: You cannot leave until instructed and must remain in the lab until the bell rings.

Illness Policy To ensure the health and safety of our children in the center you will not be able to work in the lab if you are exhibiting the following symptoms: Fever Vomiting Coughing and Sneezing not related to allergies Diarrhea Pink eye Lice Non-allergic rash (ex. Ring worm)

Make Up Work Procedures Everyone gets sick from time to time and sometimes our personal lives can prevent us from coming to class. Since you are graded on attendance you will have to do a make up assignment. Make-up work directions:  You must read an article related to child care or parenting and write a 500 word summary.  The article must be at least 2 pages long and must be submitted with the summary.  You are responsible for finding the article and printing it on your own time.  You may email the article and summary using the email linked to the Early Childhood Education website or print out the article and staple to your summary. Please note: students have TWO CLASS DAYS FOLLOWING AN ABSENCE TO TURN IN THEIR WORK.

Grading Your grade will be determined the following way: Lab participation: 50% Student Evaluation: 10% Professional Portfolio/ Assigned work: 40%
