Causes of the French and Indian War France claimed much of North America west of the Appalachian Mountains The British (England) had claimed land on the Atlantic Ocean French and British traded beaver fur with different Native American groups British colonists moved into the Ohio River valley to find more fur (French territory) French built forts to keep the British out
