Cougar News May 2012 Happy May!! The end of the school year is approaching fast. As of today, we have 25 more school days until our students are out for their summer break. The last few months of school get extremely busy, and our 3-5 grade students will have their End of Grade Testing the week of May 14 th. The End of Grade Testing calendar is printed below this message. Please make every effort to have your child eat a healthy breakfast, counted present for the day and be on time. Testing will begin each morning at 8:20am sharp. If you have any further questions about testing, please call Mrs. Boone, our Guidance Counselor, at school. There will be a June newsletter sent home with our students May 31 st. The grade level awards day will be in this letter. Thank you…….. Media Matters Costner Students are beginning the New Year with opportunities to choose a "just right book" from our New Book Purchase. A Grand THANK YOU to students and staff for all that you do to support our Library Media Center at Costner!! I am hoping to order some additional books to support our Fifth Grade Battle of Books Team. This project is possible because we have earned Box Top Dollars. Thanks to the dedicated effort of Rebekah and Sidnie Allen's Mother, we have received a Box Top check for just over $ ! THANK YOU MRS. ALLEN AND THANK YOU COSTNER STUDENTS FOR COLLECTING THOSE BOX TOPS. A "winter collecting sheet" will be sent home soon so make collecting Box Tops for Education a project at your home! Happy New Year to ALL! Mrs. Your Library. Costner nominees an hopefully county winners! Media Matters Thank you to families for supporting our school library media center with library projects this year. The Computers for Education Program and Box Top Collecting dollars have been valuable resources. It takes lots of dollars to purchase books. Please take time to talk with your child and make sure he/she keeps books borrowed returned in a timely manner. Our library has too many "over due books"! And YES!...It is time for the Scholastic BOGO Fair...Buy One and Get One! BOGO Fair from Scholastic Books will be held at our Library Media Center the week of May Check the letter that will come home with your child noting times to visit. The BOGO FAIR is the perfect opportunity to take advantage of getting books for summer reading! Studies show that children who read four or more books over the summer fare better on reading-comprehension tests in the fall. So... plan to visit our BOGO Fair and BUY BOOKS! Support our Public Libraries too! Gaston County Public Library is promoting literacy with a Summer Reading Program that begins June 11 - July 28, So Dream Big...READ ! "Check it out"...at your Public Library! Registration It is time to register your little ones for the school year! Pre-K Registration begins April 23. They must be 4yrs old on or before August 31. Kindergarten registration begins April 30. They must be 5yrs old on or before August 31. Call the school for more details. May 28-No School 5 th Grade Charleston Trip Our 5 th grade students, teachers and chaperones returned from Charleston Friday, April 27 th. It was a successful trip and the students learned a lot while having a good time. The 5 th grade teachers would like to thank all of the chaperones involved that made this trip a huge success!
