Map Skills Time Zones

Longitude Lines run north and south.

Time Zones run in the same direction as longitude lines. Each color is a different Time Zone

Vocabulary A time zone is a region of the earth that has the same time. There are 24 time zones.

Time Zones The times zones are generally divided by 15⁰ longitude. The time zones are separated by blue lines on this map.

Vocabulary The International Date Line is an imaginary line on the surface of the Earth where the date changes as one travels east or west across it.

There are six time zones in the United States of America.
