2. Vocabulary to know: Continent- a major land area on Earth
Ocean- a vast body of saltwater that covers nearly ¾ of the Earth’s surface
Hemisphere- ½ of the globe which can be divided north and south at the Equator, or east and west at the Prime Meridian
Equator- Imaginary line of latitude which divides the world in half north and south

Prime Meridian- Imaginary line of longitude that divides the world in half east and west.
International Dateline- An imaginary line of longitude at 180°which states the regions to the east are one day earlier in calendar date than the west.
North- a cardinal point on the compass; lying on a meridian and to the left of a person facing the rising sun.
South- a cardinal point on the compass lying directly opposite north.
