1 Time Zones

2 Definition The world is divided into 24 time zones. The time in each zone is different. The zones right next to each other are one hour different.

3 Time goes up one hour to the right and down one hour to the left
Time changes Time goes up one hour to the right and down one hour to the left

4

5 International Date Line
An imaginary line at about 180° longitude, to the east of which the calendar date is one day earlier than to the west. Ends one day and begins another

6 Example Here’s a map that shows all the times zones. Look how the zones are not divided by perfectly straight lines. Some lines change based on the country they go around.

7

8 How to find time on a Time Zone Map
To find the time in different zones, count how many hours in front or behind another time zone is

9 Example Example: The west coast of the United States is colored blue. The East Coast of the United States is colored orange. The West Coast is 3 hours behind the East Coast. This means that if it was 10:00 a.m on the East Coast, it would be 7:00 a.m on the West Coast.
