Painting a Portrait Lesson 12: Assessing Portrait and End of Project Quiz

Connector. In your tables place your artwork in order of their quality level. 2A 4C If you think 2 or more pieces of artwork maybe the same quality level position them next to each other.

BIG Picture Connector. Group work assess artwork. Class discussion on peer assessment. Self assessment and set targets. Table groups present assessment work. Colour wheel and portraiture quiz. Review.

Learning Objective All will assess their Julian Opie portrait and present their assessed work on their table. All will evaluate what they have learnt through the end of project quiz.

Group Work In your table groups head each piece of paper with a different level, 2A, 3C, 3B, 3A. Look at the paintings in their quality order from the connector. Under the different level headings you need to write the criteria that you think makes a painting that level. EXAMPLE : 2A: Painting goes past the lines. 3C: Painting may go outside the lines a little. GIVE at least 2 TARGETS to each person on your table. YOUR table will PRESENT their work to the class.

Present 1 of your Assessed Pieces FOR POSITIVE POINTS: Explain what makes the artwork that level. What are their targets to move up a level. Use the formal elements to explain. Key skills to demonstrate in to days lesson for whole table positive points: Listening, communicating, patience, teamwork, creativity, effective participators

Self Assessment On your folder write: Title Term Working At Working Towards Target 1 Target 2 Myself Portraiture Julian Opie Portrait 7

Points to Improve in Your Art Work. There are paint and water splashes of different colours on the painting. Painting is outside the lines in places. Painting has small white gaps or has not been painted up to the lines. Painting is rough or has dried in block patches. Paint looks thin or see through. Paint has run into other colours. Drawing is not accurate as the eyes are not in the middle of the face. Too much paint has been used on the details and features of the face.

Pick 2 Targets: Keep my work station tidy and paint over the paint and water splashes. Improve your control by painting with the small brush when you come near to the lines in your painting. Use the small paint brush to paint over the gaps and to use near to the lines in your painting. Paint with the large paint brush with more water in 1 neat smooth direction. Mix enough paint before painting. Thicken your paint by using more powder. Let the paint dry before you paint the detail over it. Improve the drawing accuracy by positioning the eyes in the middle of the face (halfway down). Use the tip of the small paint brush with little paint to pain in the detail and small features of the face.
