1 Shoes Around the World Lesson 4 Colour and Pattern

2 Connector TASK 1: Use the primary colours from your oil pastels to run them over the top of each other to blend the colours. TASK 2: Take 1 colour and use black and white to lighten and darken the colour through the same blending technique.

3 Learning Objective: ALL will use oil pastels to add colour to their shoe drawing from last lesson. MOST will use 2 colours to blend over one another to blend colours and create new colours. SOME will use their markmaking and tone with the colours.

6 Colour Stages-Oil Pastels 1) Softly use the side of your oil pastel to get the base colour of the shoe in. 2) Softly run 2 colours over the top of each other to blend them. 3) Use the corner of the oil pastel to colour near the edges of the outline for more control. 4) To create a lighter colour you can blend in white OR e.g. for a lighter green you can use more yellow than blue to lighten it. 5) To create a darker colour you can blend in black OR e.g. for a darker green you can use more blue than yellow to darken it. 6) Use the corner of the oil pastel to add in the markmaking and detail.

Yes=2, Maybe=1, No=0 Target 1) Does the drawing fill the page? 2) Is the drawing neat, inside the lines without untidy marks from pressing down too hard on the pencil? 3) Are the features the correct size and shape? 4) Are the features in the correct place? 5) Have they added accurate markmaking and details to show texture and pattern? 6) Have they begun to add smoothly blended colour showing many levels of tone? TOTAL:

8 Review: Part Target 1 Give your partner a target from the below list. Think about where they lost marks in your opinion. Explain the reason for this target to your partner. 1) Make sure drawing fills the page. 2) Dont press down too hard on the pencil- it leaves dark untidy marks. 3) Make sure all drawing is the correct size and shape. 4) Make sure all shapes are in the correct place in the drawing. 5) Make sure all details, patterns and textures are accurate using markmaking. 6) Add smoothly blended colour showing at least 3 changes in tone.

10 Final Group Review In table groups discuss a second target idea based on the following key areas: Accuracy in shape, size and placement Blending is soft and inside the lines Pattern and texture is made using mark making Colour is the correct shade Includes 3 tones and a shadow on the table
