Do you own a vehicle? If the answer is yes, whos watching it?

Each year more than a million vehicles are stolen in the U.S. – thats one vehicle every 30 seconds. The crime is simple because car owners do not take simple precautions. The Las Vegas Valley is no different than any other large metropolitan area but with its added 32 million-plus tourists annually, the problem is magnified. What are the top ten cars stolen in the Las Vegas area?

Honda Accord Chevy Camaro Toyota Camry Ford Mustang Dodge Caravan Saturn SL2 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme Nissan Sentra Buick Regal Plymouth Voyager

CCSN Auto Theft and Auto Burglary Crime Statistics: The CCSN Public Safety Department has implemented a prevention campaign to combat the rising number of auto thefts and auto burglaries. In 2002:There were 26 vehicle thefts and 37 vehicle burglaries reported that occurred on our property. In 2001: There were 13 vehicle thefts and 23 vehicle burglaries and reported that occurred on our property. In 2000: There were 11 vehicle thefts reported that occurred on our property. (Statistics on Auto Burglary were not kept in 2000) Out of Sight, Out of Crime TAKE IT OR TRUNK IT!

Who is responsible for stealing vehicles in the Las Vegas Valley area? (according to Metro)

Anti-theft devices really do work and most new cars now come with factory-installed theft devices. If your vehicle does not have a device, several are available on the market that provide the necessary protection. Many auto parts stores offer a variety of protection options such as steering wheel and brake locks, ignition cutoff switches, voltage sensing device (which triggers an alarm when a power drain is detected), motion sensing devices, to name a few. How can you decrease your risk of being a victim?

The CCSN Security and Public Safety Department is seeking to increase the public's awareness of the risks of leaving items in plain view inside even a locked vehicle. Anything of perceived value to a burglar is fair game and the burglar does not care how he or she obtains it. Electronic equipment, cellular phones, purses, and shopping bags are just a few of the things that are commonly taken in vehicle burglaries. Entry can be made into a vehicle by breaking out a window or abnormally manipulating the lock mechanism. Quite often, officers taking reports from victims find that the victim left items in plain view or the vehicle was left unlocked. So when you leave your vehicle parked, whether at home, work, or elsewhere, insure that the items you want to keep are kept out of sight and, if possible, secured in the trunk. Remember, TAKE IT OR TRUNK IT! Help Combat Auto Burglary: Out of Sight, Out of Crime
