Not reflected in charts: In multiple cases, access was gained to garage of residence by using garage door remote opener taken from unlocked vehicle in driveway In multiple cases, access was gained by removing a window screen to an unsecured window – residents may believe a window is secure simply because it has a window screen In one case, vehicle was stolen from garage, as it was left unlocked with the key fob inside

11 Residential Burglaries
Lock all doors and windows when going out, even if it’s for “just a minute.” If you have an alarm, use it! If not, consider purchasing one. Make sure you let people know you are home if someone knocks or rings your door bell. Close garage doors, unless in and around the garage Upon returning home, if you notice a door or window open that wasn’t like that when you left, do not enter your home. Call 911! 14 Vehicle burglaries Prevent Becoming a Victim:
Do not leave valuables in car, especially in plain view Do not leave windows or sunroof open Do not leave doors unlocked Do not leave keys in the vehicle Do not leave the garage door opener in plain view Do not leave documents in vehicle which may contain sensitive, personal information Do not move valuable items to trunk while in public view Park your vehicle in the garage if possible

15 Vehicle burglaries DO NOT LEAVE VALUABLES IN THE VEHICLE!
A thief will break your window on the chance that something of value is in that “unknown” bag, box, package or jacket pockets. Park in a well light area of the parking lots. Be aware of your surroundings as well as people loitering in/around vehicles.

16 Package thefts

17 Package thefts Helpful tips to prevent becoming a victim of mail theft: Do not send cash in the mail Pick up mail promptly after delivery Never leave your mail in the mailbox overnight Drop outgoing mail directly at the post office when possible Ask a trusted friend or neighbor to pick up your mail if you can’t be home When going on vacation, tell the Post Office so they can hold the mail until you return Sign up for Informed Delivery at UPS.com Top 5 Package Theft Prevention Tips from The Sheriff’s Office: Have a neighbor or relative accept the parcel if you can’t be home Have the package delivered to your workplace Utilize shipping lockers as offered by some companies Provide delivery instructions to have the parcel hidden in a location that is out of sight Request the shipper hold the package at their facility for you to pick up when convenient
