2 BE PROACTIVE, NOT REACTIVE!!
OFFICE SECURITY Keep your purse, wallet, keys, or other valuables with you at all times or locked in a drawer or closet. Check the identity of any strangers who are in your office. Don’t stay late if you’ll be alone in the office. Create a buddy system for walking to parking lots. Report any broken or flickering lights, dimly lit corridors, broken windows, and doors that don’t lock properly. If you notice signs of potential violence in a fellow employee, report this to the appropriate person. Know your unit’s emergency plan. If your unit does not have such a plan, volunteer to help develop one. Mark your equipment with identification numbers, and keep an updated inventory list. Follow the same caution with deliveries and pickups that your unit does. Anyone making a delivery to your office should be properly identified before allowing access. BE PROACTIVE, NOT REACTIVE!!

3 BE PROACTIVE, NOT REACTIVE!!
HOME SECURITY Keep all doors and windows locked when not at home. Times have changed and locks have changed, but burglars still look for homes that are easy targets. To help burglar-proof your home, install 1-inch throw deadbolt locks on all exterior doors. Don't leave notes for service people or family members on the door. Secure garage doors after every use. To keep your tools from being stolen, paint the handles. Thieves avoid items that are easy to identify. Mark and record all valuables. Report any hazards such as poor lighting, broken locks, etc. Do not leave children unattended. Verify identity of strangers loitering in your neighborhood. Participate in your local Neighborhood Watch Program. Talk to your neighbors about any suspicious people or strange cars you notice lurking about. Register with the Security Forces Home Watch program. Report suspicious activities to Security Forces. Visit the National Crime Prevention Council website at for additional home security tips. BE PROACTIVE, NOT REACTIVE!!

4 BE PROACTIVE, NOT REACTIVE!!
DORMITORY SECURITY Close friends and family should know your routines. You want those close to you to have a general idea of where you are suppose to be in case something happens. Always lock the door. If you’re stepping out for even a couple minutes make sure to lock up. Never give your key or a copy of it to another person, and if you lose your key, have the lock changed as soon as possible. If you’re going to sleep, do not leave the door unlocked for your roommate. They should have their own key and follow the same rules for safety. Verify the identity of any strangers in your dorm. Report hazards such as poor lighting, broken locks, etc. Keep items stored in non-see-through containers locked in a storage locker. Mark and record all valuables to prevent theft. Never leave items unattended in common areas. Report suspicious activities to Security Forces. BE PROACTIVE, NOT REACTIVE!!
