Culminating writing task English I 1st Nine Weeks

English I Using your favorite quote about revenge, explain the difference between vengeance and justice. Use evidence from “The Cask of Amontillado”, “The Most Dangerous Game”, “The Possibility of Evil”, “The Futility of Vengeance”, and “Vengeance? Justice? You Need Both” to support your opinions.

Prewriting

Introduction (English 1) At least 3 sentences Grabber: Grabs the readers attention (quote, question, statistic, etc.) Bridge: Connects the grabber to the thesis Thesis: Main idea/argument of the paper Subject + Topic + because + 3 reasons (question) (answer) (body paragraphs)

Example Thesis What is a hobby that many people enjoy? Thesis: Subject- hobby that many people enjoy Topic- fishing Reasons- relaxing, can be done year around, provides food Fishing is a hobby that many people enjoy because it is relaxing, can be done year around, and provides food for the fisherman.

Body (English 1) Three body paragraphs Five to seven sentences Topic or claim sentence: One of the three reasons from your thesis statement Evidence: Provide the fact that proves your claim. (For example,…) Explanation: Explains your evidence (Because…, Since…, or Due to the fact that…) Transition: Connects the body paragraphs (Although, accordingly, then, in the end)

Conclusion (English 1) At least 4 sentences Restate the thesis Restate your claims Closer: Why is the topic important? (Connect the topic to the world)
