The benefits of A Levels (and other Level 3 qualifications) Greater options for employment, apprenticeships or university. Graduates on average earn £9,000 more per year than non-graduates. A Levels are required for some apprenticeships. Individuals with Level 3 qualifications are more likely to be employed. All students in Year 11 must remain in education or training until the age of 18 (RPA).

Destinations 99% of last year’s students are in Education, Employment or Training. 76% of last year’s students secured a place at university or college. An increasing number of students progress to the elite universities (Russell Group and Sutton Trust). 3 students started at an Oxbridge university. 23% of our students started an apprenticeship or entered full time employment. A small number of students have taken a gap year.

Rossett Sixth Form Destinations Results – Last year around 35% of our students who went to university went to a Russell Group university (Top UK universities). Dan is at Imperial College London studying Physics after achieving A*A*AA. Leah is studying Acting at Lancaster after achieving ABB. Tom is completing an apprenticeship in Cabinet Making in Thirsk after achieving ADD.

Rossett Sixth Form Destinations Hannah is studying Medicine at Nottingham University after achieving A*AA. Will is completing an apprenticeship in business in Harrogate after achieving BBC. Georgia achieved ABC in her subjects and is studying Nursing at East Anglia University. Kate is studying Computer Science at Cambridge after achieving A*A*A*.

A Level Changes A Level reforms were introduced between 2015 and 2017. All subjects are now reformed. This means that schools nationally have moved to 3 A Level subjects plus a fourth option curriculum model. Students will still be able to achieve the same number of UCAS points for university.

A Level Subject choices Students select 3 A Level subjects to study over 2 years. Students will pick one of the following fourth options based on GCSE results: Students will only sit exams in either a fourth A Level or complete their Extended Project Qualification / Core Maths in Year 12. Extended Project Qualification Core Maths LIBF Student Finance Level 3 qualification Football Scholars Programme with UFCA Fourth A Level for students with a high average points score

We know your strengths Rossett teachers know students’ strengths already and can work with them, from day one, to maximise their potential. Students make excellent progress. Smaller class sizes in many subject areas means that students benefit from more ‘teacher time’. We support students choosing the right subjects to ensure they can maximise their UCAS points for university.

Support & Guidance OUTSTANDING pastoral care and guidance – see our OFSTED report. We believe that our knowledge of students helps us to write detailed and effective personal references. We have an excellent success rate with majority of our students receiving all 5 university offers and over 30% receiving unconditional offers. Our experienced team of Year 13 tutors help with personal statements and UCAS applications.

Specialist Pathways DMV pathway - support for students considering applications to Dentistry, Medicine and Veterinary Medicine courses. Education pathway – supports students with applications for teaching qualifications. Law pathway– several of our students have been accepted on the prestigious Pathways to Law programme. STEM – two pathways: ‘Science and Technology’ and ‘Engineering and Maths’.

Career support Aim Higher programme - a group of the most able students to develop critical thinking skills and help them in their applications to the elite universities. Apprenticeship programme – supports students in their application for apprenticeships. Personalised career guidance is also available from our dedicated Careers Advisor.

Enrichment Opportunities Listeners, Rossett Ambassadors, Rossett Sports Ambassadors, Sixth Form committee, charities week, in-class support, Sixth Form Science Council. Rossett school regularly raises over £20,000 per year. All students benefit from being part of the Rossett ‘school community’ where they can demonstrate leadership, empathy, care and responsibility towards younger students. These ‘soft skills’ are highly valued by employers and admissions tutors.

New Sixth Form Facilities Sixth Form Deli, open all day. Assembly room / study area Computer resources Dedicated study rooms and a Sixth Form area of the library provide excellent ICT facilities and a quiet place to work. Ability to leave school site during ‘non-contact’ time for work experience or with a parental agreed home study plan. Permission to bring cars on site.

Courses & Entry Requirements Over 30 courses to choose from. Can study A Levels and BTEC Level 3 courses, we offer a personalised curriculum. We advise on subject choices to maximise their potential UCAS points for university. A Levels generally require a grade B in that subject at GCSE. 5 GCSEs at grade 4 (C) or above.
