2 Aims of this evening Provide an overview of student experience at SSFC
Outline the key features of SSFC Indicate ways that parents can support young people through this stage of education Answer any questions.

3 Leading students to success
Record A* grades at A level 100% A level pass rate in over 20 subjects 48% high grades A*- B at A level.

4 Academic achievement Most students will follow 3 A Levels or 3 BTEC courses over the course of 2 years. Some students will choose to specialise in more vocational BTEC subjects that will result in a Diploma (Double) eg H&SC, Sport Studies Some students can choose to follow 4 A levels. Linear qualifications BTEC Extended Diploma – Construction & the Built Environment Extended Project Qualification.

5 Mixed programme Some students may select a mixture of A level and BTEC courses Some may need to take GCSE English or Maths resit alongside 2 Level 3 courses.

6 Level 2 Programme Bespoke timetable GCSE Maths & English
A choice of Health & Social Care, Construction, Digital Promotion for Business Tuesday – Thursday.

7 Studying at SSFC 9am – 3:30pm 9am – 3pm (Friday)
Timetabled lessons Monday – Friday Directed study Tutor- 3 times per week.

8 Academic Progress Key Assessment Grade (KAG)
Formal trial exams at end of Year 12 Reports to parents Parents evenings.

9 Role of the Faculty Manager
Oversee the academic progress of students Lead Year 12 & Year 13 tutor teams and tutorial programme Review student attendance Provide rapid intervention to support our students in both academic and pastoral matters.

10 Tutorial system Designed to support individual student success – Individual Learner Plan Three 30 minute sessions per week Subject-specific tutor Regular liaison between home and college Progress updates accessible via Parent Advantage.

11 Tutorial Programme Weekly bulletin to inform students about opportunities Individual 1:1 time with tutor to develop a personalised learning plan Attendance monitoring Academic subject support Development of enrichment activities and work placements Help with UCAS application – tutor reference Support with student finance.

12 Individual Support and Guidance
In 1:1 meetings with tutors, students explore future aspirations, potential careers and the grades they are aiming to achieve The appropriate support is then put in place to support the student in their learning journey All students have individual careers interview with Youth Direction advisor.

13 Progression events Oxford / Cambridge Open Days Guest speakers
Masterclasses Newcastle / Northumbria Open Days Newcastle Partners Programme NU Entry Access to Leeds Durham Supported Progression NCS Events Personal Statement Workshops Student Finance Talks Amazing Apprenticeships Progression Fair – attended by over 40 HE, apprenticeship, employment providers.

14 Destinations We pride ourselves on our ability to track our students destinations for a whole year after they have left college 70% progress to study at HE 20% secure places at the most prestigious institutions Our students also secure Higher & Degree Level Apprenticeships, Graduate Programmes, careers in the Armed / Emergency services as well as employment.

15 Additional support Learning support team - Endeavour Faculty
College counsellor – weekly appointments Independent careers advice and guidance College bursary for students with a household income of under £21,000 per year Students may also qualify for free college meals & bus transport.
