3 Destinations after Year 11
Apprenticeship Employment Sixth Form College A higher level of qualifications equals greater income over their working life and also better employment prospects.

4 Apprenticeship Level 2 Apprenticeship – go into straight after year 11 – average salary £150 a week Level 3 Apprenticeship – go into after Post-16 qualifications (Level 3) – average salary £18,000 and often pay for further qualifications. Higher Apprenticeships – can include degrees and have a higher earning potential

5 Employment Needs to have some sort of formal training linked to it.

7 Healthcare Pathways Role/Job Qualifications needed Doctor 3 A Levels
1 AS including Biology or Chemistry 6 or 7 A*/A at GCSE Nurse 2 Science related subjects, such as BTEC Applied Science, Biology, Chemistry or an A Level Science Paramedic Biology A Level required for most courses & 2 A Levels / BTECs Occupational Health BTEC or A Level courses. Should offer 1 or more Science related courses including Applied Science, Health and Social Care, Psychology, Sociology etc.

Level 3 – A Levels, Pre-U courses and BTEC National courses Level 2 – equivalent to 5 A*- C at GCSE Level 1 – equivalent to 5 A*-G at GCSE

9 What courses are there post-16 and how are they changing?
Advanced Level Courses BTEC Level 3 Courses Extended Project Cambridge Pre-U Diploma Different entry requirements for courses reflects the demands of the course. They are there to guide you as outcomes are important = determine where you can go

10 GCSE English and Maths All students have to gain a grade 4 in Maths and English GCSE If they do not achieve it in Year 11, they are required to attend lessons and retake the exams until they achieve a grade 4 Students may need to retake to achieve a grade 5 if considering studying at some univeristies.

11 Sixth Form Options All students = 4 Options at 6th Form Year 12
All students take 4 options (some students may take 5 if they are taking GPR or Further Maths). Year 13 Students normally drop down to 3 courses (Some students may take 4 particularly if taking Further Maths or GPR) Students do not have to choose at start of Year 12 which course will be one year course.

12 Changes to A Levels A Levels from September are now 2 year linear courses (exams all at the end of Year 13) AS Levels are now one year courses and the grade they achieve in Year 12 does not contribute to their full A level grade. This will apply to all subjects this year. Students will need to choose at the start of Year 13 which subject they want to drop.

13 AS in Year 12 Between GCSE and old “A” Level 2 Units in most subjects
Exams in May Results A*-E Used for Higher Education Application AS Level grade does not contribute to A Level grade.

14 A Level Sit all exams at end of Year 13 Old “A” level standard
Start in Year 12 Exams in June of Year 13 “A” level result (A*-E)

15 BTEC Level 3 Courses “Real world” equivalents of A Levels
Level 3 qualifications Most popular vocational qualification in UK Further Education Recognised and respected by employer and universities Allow you to go on to study for an honours degree at university Can be one year or two year courses Mainly assessed through coursework

16 Extended Project Equivalent to an AS Level You choose the topic
One year course only Either an extended essay of 5,000 words and a presentation Or a performance or product and a report of 1,000 words and a presentation No exams

17 Pre-U Diploma Designed to prepare students for University
Take one Pre-U subject with 3 other subjects If take one Pre-U subject and the GPR (Global Perspectives and Research) with two other courses then can achieve the Pre-U diploma Exams at end of two years Proven track record in helping students access the more competitive universities
