And meet one of the following three: 1. Earn a cumulative passing score on seven end of course exams (18 points). 2. Earn a “remediation-free” score on a nationally recognized college admission exam such as the ACT or SAT. The state of Ohio will pay for all 11th grade students in the class of 2018 and beyond to take the exam free of charge. 3. Earn a State Board of Education approved, industry-recognized credential or a state issued license for practice in a career and achieve a score that demonstrates workforce readiness and employability on a job skills assessment (MVCTC) For further information, log on to the Ohio Department of Education’s website

ACT Prep Brookville High School can offer an ACT Prep Course Through ZAPS Test Prep (cost is ~$80) Brookville High School can offer Virtual ACT prep through GradPoint Tipp City Community Center offers an ACT prep Course – more info on my website Zaps is all day on a Saturday or can be broken up into a couple of smaller sessions. Typically done in the spring.

College Selection Narrow college selections down to three or four colleges Be sure that your qualifications meet the colleges’ criteria (ACT/SAT scores, GPA, major is offered, etc) to avoid losing application fees and being disappointed

College Applications Begin application process in the Fall Applications often ask for: High School Involvement Essays Personal Statement Recommendation letters (ask your teacher or counselor to write you a recommendation letter (if needed) at least a week or two before the deadline. Test scores need to be sent Print any forms that need to be completed (such as a counselor form) Be aware of deadlines! Mention giving teachers a list of activities that they are involved in so that teachers may make references to that in their letters. Make sure you give teachers ample time to write letters of recommendation – it doesn‘t hurt to provide them with a stamped and addressed envelope to ensure easier delivery of the letters This is worked on in English classes junior and senior year! Many colleges have early decision and early action deadlines of November 1st and December 1st

College Expectations Different colleges have different expectations about what classes students should have taken in high school. Visit https://bigfuture.collegeboard.org/find-colleges for information about what each college looks for in their students. Most colleges use a holistic review of a student’s application to determine admission.

Changes to the FAFSA Process for 2017-2018 SUBMIT A FAFSA EARLIER: Students will be able to submit a 2017–18 FAFSA as early as Oct. 1, 2016, rather than beginning on Jan. 1, 2017. The earlier submission date will be a permanent change, enabling students to complete and submit their FAFSAs as early as October 1 every year. (There is NO CHANGE to the 2016–17 schedule. The 2016–17 FAFSA became available Jan. 1, 2016.) USE EARLIER INCOME AND TAX INFORMATION: Beginning with the 2017–18 FAFSA, students will be required to report income and tax information from an earlier tax year. For example, on the 2017–18 FAFSA, students (and parents, as appropriate) will report their 2015 income and tax information, rather than their 2016 income and tax information. Specific financial aid questions are best answered by the Financial Aid reps at the college you are interested in attending

Changes to the FAFSA Process for 2017-2018 Brookville High School will host a Financial Aid Meeting night on November 15th Wright State will present from 6:30 – 8:30 pm, part of this time will be a presentation explaining the FAFSA and part of the time will include a workshop to help families process through the changes and the necessary paperwork needed.
